About Python:
Extremely studly and useful (not to mention easy-to-use) scripting language with 1000 uses; handy for text processing, CGI programming, you name it.
Several useful BeOS-specific modules extend the functionality of Python (see fsattr, fsquery, and find_directory, also available on BeBits). Python uses native threading and dynamic loading under BeOS.
