Jato Communications Offers High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line Internet Access in Utah and New Mexico

High-Speed Internet Access and Applications Company Expands Reach In Underserved Markets With Launches in Salt Lake City, Albuquerque and Santa Fe

DENVER, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Denver-based Jato Communications Corp., a high-speed Internet access and applications company, this week begins marketing affordable, high-speed digital subscriber line (DSL) Internet access to small and mid-size business customers in Salt Lake City, Albuquerque and Santa Fe. DSL is a digital connection that transmits data up to 100 times faster than dial-up Internet access over existing phone lines. Unlike dial-up access, DSL service is ``always on,'' saving time by enabling customers to get fast, secure connections without interruptions and busy signals.

Jato Communications is the first company to provide DSL service in New Mexico and Jato's entry into Salt Lake City marks the first competition for the incumbent phone company in offering this increasingly popular service. With the June launch of DSL service in Denver, Jato now offers DSL service in three metropolitan areas and expects to expand into 10 by the end of the year.

Jato will introduce its service in Salt Lake City, Albuquerque and Santa Fe with an offer for a free modem in each market for all customers who order service before September 30. The company will begin taking customer orders immediately, with service expected to begin within several weeks.

With an emphasis on reaching markets ignored or underserved by larger telecommunications companies, Jato will use high-speed digital connections to enable small- to mid-size business customers to utilize the next generation of Internet-based ``broadband'' applications, including video e-mail, pay-per-use software, off-site file backups, tele-networking and multimedia services.

``We created Jato to be a champion of the Internet end-user,'' said Keith Bennett, Jato's Western region president overseeing the company's service in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, parts of Texas, Arizona, California, Kansas, Tennessee, Nevada, Hawaii, Washington and Oregon.

``Thousands of companies like the idea of using high-speed Internet access and applications to gain a competitive edge, but they don't know how to get there. The telecommunications industry has not been able to remedy this, much less make these services readily available in all markets. Jato's intention is to fully meet business and consumer demands.''

Jato's ``DSL PLUS(TM)'' guaranteed Internet access and applications service promises to hook up customers with as little or as much DSL speed as they need depending on their business applications and growth plans. DSL PLUS is available from 144 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps for most business and residential customers, and speeds are expected to increase in the near future. In addition, Jato provides:

``Our approach is unique in that we're focusing our efforts in underserved markets like Utah and New Mexico to reach companies that are actively seeking ways to become more productive, cost efficient and competitive,'' Bennett said. ``Jato's management expertise, market partners and day-to-day emphasis on what the end user needs means we'll be able to move into each market quickly to provide immediate value and develop enduring relationships with our customers.''

Jato has raised over $20 million in venture capital to enable it to launch its DSL service in all 10 metropolitan areas by the end of the year. The company is supported by a $50 million agreement with Lucent Technologies, which provides Jato with access and data networking products, as well as installation, monitoring, network maintenance and financing. Jato expects to announce additional market-level and national strategic alliances soon.
