Bluefish
Navigate Introduction
Bluefish is a GTK HTML editor for the experienced web designer. It is very usable (a lot of websites are already created using Bluefish) but new features might be not yet completely finished. A lot of people actually email that they think it is the best! Bluefish is released under the GPL licence.

If you like this program, please let me know and send me a postcard and tell me which country/state you're from:

Send an email containing "subscribe bluefish-dev" in the body to listar@lists.ems.ru to join development, translations or testing.

You can also join channel #bluefish on IRCNET, but we're not always there.

Requirements
Bluefish should run on any unix like system that has the GTK libraries installed, It is written and tested using Linux. Bluefish requires the Gtk-1.2.* library, and for the image dialogs to work it requires the Imlib library. This is tested on FreeBSD/i386, NetBSD/Mac68k, Linux/i386, Linux/alpha and probably more. For so me functionality Bluefish depends (optional) on external programs. Weblint is used for HTML cleanup, and Netscape is used as a HTML viewer. Version 0.3.3 and 0.3.4 can optionally use the GtkEditor widget, but this is still experimental (but the syntax highlighting looks good). However, the GtkEditor widget seems to be not completely stable yet so the current version uses gtkeditor independent code for highlighting.
Functionality
  • Nice wizards for startup, tables, frames, and others
  • HTML toolbar and tearable menu's
  • Open from the web
  • Fully featured image insert dialog
  • Thumbnail creation and automatically linking of the thumbnail with the original image
  • Custom toolbar
  • Project management
  • Per project customized default dialog settings
  • Reference for PHP3, SSI and RXML (over 900 functions referenced)
  • Preview options for dynamic HTML
  • One of the most complete CSS dialogs
  • Syntax highlighting with configurable regular expressions
  • A nice configuration dialog
Current development
We just released a new version, so there's nothing new yet. But we do have plans for the next version:
  • More taqs supported in the edit tags right-click menu
  • More and better configuration
  • A new (stable) custom menu
  • External filters support
  • Better project management
