The Gigabit Ethernet Interface Processor (GEIP) is a single port Gigabit Ethernet interface for Cisco 7500 series high performance routers. The GEIP provides high speed LAN backbone connectivity for Cisco 7500 series routers. The GEIP is a single-slot Interface Processor (IP) and supports hot-swappable Gigabit Interface Converters (GBIC). The GEIP is available for 1000BASE-SX (short wave length laser) and 1000BASE-LX (long wave length laser) networks. The GEIP can be connected to a Gigabit Ethernet port of Catalyst 5000 switch to provide WAN connectivity to LAN users.
Occupies a single slot in the Cisco 7500 series router chassis
Supports Cisco 7505, 7507, 7513 and 7576 platforms
Hot-swappable GBIC modules provide flexibility
Supports both short and long wavelength lasers (1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX)
Supports Online Insertion & Removal (OIR)
Operates in IEEE 802.3z compliant Full Duplex mode only
GEIP, based on VIP technology, supports Distributed Switching and Services
