Excite@Home Has a Definite Hit on its Hands with its Revolutionary Online and Live Program "Talkin' Trash Live With Lola Pandora" Challenging Jerry Springeresque Type Show Proves to be Highly Successful Among both the Live Web and In-Venue Audience Event Partners Include Play, INTERVU, Lipstream, Jumpcut and Javelin
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - August 2, 1999 -- Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM), today announced that the first live Internet talk show, "Talkin' Trash Live with Lola Pandora," continues across the country making successful stops in Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, New York and Boston. Drawing more than 3000 Web users and 150 club goers to each and every show, Excite's "Talkin' Trash Live with Lola Pandora" marks a milestone in Internet history with its unique combination of Internet chat and a live and totally interactive talk show.
The show stage, outfitted with purple velvet couch, chairs for each of the guests, retro computer corner and a mike, is where host, Lola Pandora, introduces each broadcast for the Internet show and amuses the audience for a solid hour of cyber trash (www.excite.com/lola). Ms. Pandora speaks openly to "Talkin' Trash Live" guests about their Web experiences, ranging from cybersex to Web addiction to the LA debut show about Web identities titled, "I Can be Anybody Online." Meanwhile, co-host and cyber girl, Allura, entertains the at home audience and invites Web users to ask questions of the colorful and somewhat controversial guests. With the technology expertise from Excite's partners including Play, Microsoft INTERVU, Lipstream and Jumput, "Talkin' Trash Live" is able to deliver a truly entertaining and rich new media experience.
"To direct a live talk show, similar to that of Jerry Springer or Ricky Lake, while entertaining both a live and Web audience was a great challenge for me," said Kelly Hernacki, Emmy award-winning director and supervising producer and director of Excite's "Talkin' Trash Live." "This tour is not only a personal victory, but truly a historic moment for Internet television. 'Talkin' Trash Live' marries the newest and richest technologies including Excite voicechat and streaming media with excellent talent and set design for a fun and remarkable Web talk show."
FIRST-RATE INTERACTIVE SHOW
Hosted by INTERVU Inc. (Nasdaq: ITVU), the show (Webcast) starts at 8pm local time at www.excite.com/lola and is being broadcast live using Play's Globecaster, a complete Internet TV broadcast station which creates streaming video with a higher level of quality than previously possible. With technical direction and execution from Jumpcut, the online audience is able to watch the sassy host Lola interact with the live guests. Lipstream Technology, allows users from home to use VoiceChat, an Excite@Home product that enables guests to ask questions of the Talkin' Trash guests by simply speaking into their PC microphones.
HOW TALKIN' TRASH BEGAN ON EXCITE.COM
The online text-only show launched in January 1999 and was an instant success. Upside Magazine (March 1999) was prophetic when they predicted, "Lola and her cybercohorts may have a hit on their hands." Because of the show's popularity and Lola's endless emails from fans, Excite@Home decided to take the show on the road with this live summer tour. On the road, "Talkin' Trash with Lola Pandora" continues to be a "grrrl-ish take on MTV's Loveline, with naughty talk on such topics as Cybersex vs. Real Sex"(TV Guide, July 1999). However, this time, it's real, it's live and it's even more fun.
"'Talkin' Trash Live' has got all the right ingredients of those popular talk shows, but produced and distributed in a cutting-edge new media style," said Fred Siegel, senior vice-president, Excite@Home. "This Internet talk show is about convergence of entertainment and the Internet. Working with our cyber-queen host, Lola Pandora, and industry leading partners and sponsors, we are inviting talk show junkies across the county to truly participate in the trash by being the first and only chat show on
the Web on www.excite.com/lola."
A GREAT LINE-UP OF PARTNERS AND SPONSORS
Siegel continues, "Our event partners are uniquely positioned to maximize the interactive experience. Each brings a unique talent or technology that gives our live and online audience more to do, more to experience, and more to talk about during the talk shows. Play, INTERVU, Lipstream, Jumpcut, Javelin and Places to Stay ha ve all played a very important role in this production."
