CuisineNet
Rate the restaurants yourself! If you already know where you want to go, this is a great bet: good directions, and the odds of finding a parking space.
DineSite
Similar to Cuisine Net, this website (still in development) lets you rank the restaurants yourself, and read what other surfers had to say.
Dining Web!
An excellent search engine for local restaurants and bars. Get out of the dining rut and try something different this weekend.
Janet McLean's Restaurant Reviews
I have no idea who Janet McLean is, but she does a good job of covering the essential downtown eateries.
Menus.com
Prefer takeout? This used to be full text (with prices) of menus from some area hotspots, but it looks like they're prepping for a relaunch. Stay tuned!
Phyllis Richman's Top 50
The culinary maven rates her top 50 DC restaurants, as reported in The Washington Post. There's also a
search function for all her recent reviews.
Phyllis Richman's Online Discussion Archives
The Post sponsors weekly chats with the food maven, you can read the transcripts here.
Restaurants That Are Open Late
A don't miss feature from Sidewalk.com (see below) on local eateries that keep the home fires (and home fries) cooking until the wee hours.
The Savvy Diner
Now here's something new -- make your dinner reservation online! Only about 20 places available so far, they're still building their database.
Sidewalk.com
In partnership with
Zagat's, they do good reviews and features on local restaurants for kids, romantic eateries, wine news, etc.
Washingtonian's Guide to Food and Wine Events
Looks like this is the only part of the site they update constantly, but its a good one. Big chart of events in and around DC, on and off the beaten path.
Washington Post StyleLive
Up-to-date event information, with a searchable database, full-text of the paper's food columns and restaurant reviews. Recipes too!
2Quail
A bastion of Capitol Hill romantics, it's great for Valentine's Day or anniversaries. Site just has menus and a wine list.
Austin Grill
Wow, quite a site for a restaurant! Read about scholarship fundraising, contests, special events, and much more.
The Daily Grill
One of my new faves, they just opened a restaurant in Dupont. Nice site too, with stock quotes and much more to explore.
Georgia Brown's
A Washington institution smack in the middle of downtown, specializing in "New Southern" cooking. Typically voted one of the best in Washingtonian.
Jaleo
One of my favorites. A fun tapas restaurant with paella to die for. Check the schedule for the nearby Shakespeare Theatre, though, to make sure you can get in.
Kinkead's
Arguably the best place to find "new American cuisine" in Washington, owned by the former chef at 21 Federal.
The Mark
One of this years up-and-comers, the Mark has gotten rave reviews and has a website that lives up to them. Interactive wine quiz, full menus, and much more.
Mystery on the Menu
Something new for your next dinner party -- a murder! Audience participation required for this travelling troupe's performances. You can also see them at downtown theaters.
Peppers Restaurant
A vegetarian-inspired spot at 17th and R. The site features menus for brunch and dinner, not sure how often it's updated though.
The Red Sage
The Red Sage gained some well-deserved popularity when Clinton called it one of his favorites in 1992. Still great, and still crowded.
Rocklands
Arguably D.C.'s best barbeque, Rocklands supplements its downtown, no-fuss eateries with catering services for the metro area.
Songhai Restaurant
Really nice site for this downtown restaurant specializing in West African Cuisine. Take a virtual tour of the place!
Sushiko
Lovely splash page with some cool asian-inspired jazz music in the background. Turn your volume down if you're surfing at work! No other info, though.
Zuki Moon
A cool upscale noodle joint in Foggy Bottom. Check out their menu online. Got a great review from hard-to-please Post doyenne Phyllis Richman.
