Early Access Developer Releases and Specifications available -- download the
first public previews of six Java products, including Java Media Player 1.0
Beta, Java Specifications October Update, JavaMail API Specification 0.4,
Java Foundation Classes Release 0.5, Java Foundation Classes Accessibility

Java Card API 2.0 Specification now final and available for download. Java
Card 2.0 is designed to enable developers to build smart cards that
interoperate with each other, existing cards, and card-reading terminals.
Cards integrating Java Card 2.0 technology can store and update account
information, money, and personal data, and the cards can span industries
ranging from financial services, telephony, and healthcare to Internet access
and electronic commerce.
Features include support for code reusability; secure inter-applet
communication; support for ISO standard card/terminal communication; a
standard cryptography API; and compliance with ISO standards 7816-4 and

Java Web Server 1.0.3 available for purchase or trial. Easy-to-use,
easy-to-administer, extensible, secure, and platform-independent--plus,
simplifies the deployment and management of Internet and intranet web sites.

Sun Unveils first Java processor, the microJavaTM 701TM. As the first
chip in the microJava 700 series, the microJava 701 is designed to deliver
the best price and performance ratio for the direct execution of Java code--and provides a transition strategy for developers migrating to Java from
C/C++ code. Production volume for the chip is expected by the second half of
