SYSTEM UPGRADER - Q&A

QUESTION

Here's my system:

Intel Pentium 133 MHz
3.6 GB hard drive
CD-ROM drive
no soundcard
28.8 Kbps modem
15 inch monitor
embedded videocard
Windows NT
Additional info: Started out as an HP NET SERVER 5/75 LH; has been upgraded to P133 (single processor); duplex SCSI configuration on the "hot swap" drive bays which are empty at this time.

What drives can I put into the "hot swap" shelves? I have looked at all the HP documentation and can only find HP part numbers.

Also: at present, I have 128 MB RAM. Any ideas for optimum performance (other than another 64 MB which I plan to put in next week)?

ANSWER

Well, if you're going up to 192 MB of RAM, that's pretty cool. For optimum performance, I'd recommend a faster processor, or a second processor if the motherboard supports it. If not, then you may be maxxed out.

For the hot swap drive bays, you can usually find "generic" bays that will work with big name servers and just put any SCSI drive into them. Check with Raid Inc. at http://www.raidinc.com/html/hot_plug_drives.html#hp for some non-HP drives that will fit into your machine. There are other companies out there that support this stuff as well.
