Intel releases Mobile Celeron at 333 MHz
posted 4/6/99

NEWS
Intel released a 333 MHz mobile Celeron, priced at $160 in quantities of 1000.

Intel also released low-power versions of its Pentium II and Celeron processors running at 266 MHz. The 266 MHz chips run on 1.5 volts and consume 5.8 watts of power. The 333 MHz mobile Celeron operates on 1.6 volts, consuming 6 watts of power.

ROB'S OPINION
Does a 0.1 volt and 0.2 watt difference really create less heat? I suppose it must, but what would happen if you retro-fitted a 333 MHz Celeron into one of those laptops? Perhaps Intel has different form factors, and the 266 MHz processors are in a smaller form factor than the 333 MHz mobile Celeron. That could explain it.
