June 30, 1999, may be the last day of Cyrix. If National Semiconductor fails to get a reasonable offer for its Cyrix division by June 30, it will be forced to close the unit to achieve profitability along with its plans.

ROB'S OPINION
Lately, everyone is talking about what junk Cyrix chips are anyway. They aren't up to the speed of AMD or Intel chips, and they are often sold in low-quality, low-price systems subject to failure.

I had high hopes for Cyrix, but its dreams of 600 MHz parts in 1999 did seem a bit ambitious. It still hasn't produced a chip that runs faster than 300 MHz.

Anyway, I'll be scanning the news over the next two weeks to see if there are any buyers, but if not, it looks bad for Cyrix. National Semi may just do a large sell-off of all Cyrix technology, equipment, and the fab.
