Intel's Coppermine Delayed posted 6/18/99 NEWS Intel will be releasing a 600 MHz Pentium III on schedule in September, but it will not have 256 KB of integrated L2 cache. Also, the first generation of mobile processors featuring Geyserville technology will initially run at 500 MHz instead of 600 MHz, with an "unplugged" speed of 400 MHz.
ROB'S OPINION It is certainly surprising to me that Intel has problems moving to .18 microns. Intel goes around demoing 1 GHz Coppermine processors and then gets hit with a nasty delay like this. Are the tables turning? Is AMD going to have some good luck now? I hear AMD plans to own 20% of the desktop market and 25% of the mobile market by the end of the year. Good luck to Intel. It'll need it.
