The Java^TM 2 Software Development Kit, Standard Edition (J2SE^TM), v 1.2.2 for Linux is Sun's first production release of the Java 2 Platform for the Linux operating system.

Developers have frequently requested a commercially supported port for Java technology on Linux, and Sun is now fulfilling that request. J2SE^TM v 1.2.2 for Linux is a port of Sun's currently shipping J2SE v 1.2.2 for Solaris and Windows.

All of the enhanced features of J2SE technology are now available for Linux developers including JFC/Swing GUI components, Java 2 security model, the Collections Framework, JavaBeans^TM component model, JBDC^TM, Internationalization support, and much more. Significant contributions were made to J2SE for Linux by the Blackdown Java-Linux porting team. The Blackdown Java-Linux porting team is a non-profit group of enthusiastic Java technology and Linux developers who have led the efforts to port various JDKs and J2SE releases to Linux. Sun continues to support the efforts of the Blackdown team.

Note: This software does not bundle a Just-in-Time (JIT) compiler. For better performance, Sun recommends the use of a separately available JIT. See Related Downloads section to obtain the location of a compatible JIT.

One large bundle (~21MB)
Multiple disk size pieces (each ~1.4MB) These pieces cannot be installed individually; you must download all of the pieces and follow the installation instructions.
