JAVA NAMING AND DIRECTORY INTERFACE^TM (JNDI)

The Java Naming and Directory Interface^TM (JNDI) is a standard extension to the Java^TM platform, providing Java technology-enabled applications with a unified interface to multiple naming and directory services in the enterprise. As part of the Java Enterprise API set, JNDI enables seamless connectivity to heterogeneous enterprise naming and directory services. Developers can now build powerful and portable directory-enabled applications using this industry standard.

J2EE Technology JNDI works in concert with other J2EE technologies to organize and locate components in a distributed computing environment.

JNDI 1.2 is a major upgrade release that includes, among other features, support for event notification and LDAP v3 extensions and controls. The specification contains valuable contributions from the following companies: Netscape, Novell, SCO, Sun, BEA.

Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, v1.3:
The JNDI 1.2 class libraries and service providers for LDAP, COS naming, and the RMI registry are available as part of the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, v1.3. To obtain other service providers, or the booster pack for the LDAP service provider, use the JNDI 1.2.1 download button.

Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition:
The JNDI 1.2 class libraries and the COS naming service provider are available as part of the Java 2 SDK, Enterprise Edition. To obtain other service providers, use the JNDI 1.2.1 download button.

JNDI 1.2.1:
The JNDI 1.2.1 class libraries and each of the service providers are packaged in separate files, available from the same download page. You might need to scroll through the page to find the item you want. Here is a list of the items available:
