Data Representations, Inc. co-founder Carl Sayres, today announced the general availability of Version 1.2 of Simplicity for Java and Simplicity Professional. The new release brings improved functionality and performance to the company's Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool suite.
"Version 1.2 marks another milestone in the evolution of the Simplicity for Java family of products," said Mr. Sayres. "The new features and capabilities in this release respond directly to customer feedback and make our tools attractive to new categories of users, such as those building data-intensive applications, and network based applications."
Version 1.2 of the Simplicity for Java family of 100% Pure Java, Rapid Application Development tools supports the development of both client side and server side applications for mass deployment across the internet, or within a company's intranet. The new release lets developers connect applications to JDBC/ODBC-compliant databases without writing any additional code, create dynamic web sites and network applications using Java Servlet technology, and easily test applications across diverse platforms.

Version 1.2 of Simplicity Professional offers new capabilities that allow developers to build SQL queries graphically, and tie the resulting data into their applications without programming. The tools may be used with any JDBC or ODBC compliant database server. The addition of new database tools to Simplicity Professional's proven Rapid Application Development suite provides a complete development toolkit for building data-intensive applications without programming.
Version 1.2 of Simplicity Professional also introduces a new environment for building Servlet-based network applications. A development server runs behind the new Servlet Composer which allows developers to build dynamic web sites and network services.
Also in Simplicity Professional is a 'One Click' tool that allows an application built on one operating system to be tested on another operating system.
Both Simplicity for Java and Simplicity Professional allow the creation of Applications using an interactive graphical approach to user-interfaces as well as program logic. Once the application's user interface is constructed, the Code Sourcerer(tm) interviews the developer in plain English, and writes the necessary Java source code to complete the program. Simplicity includes full support for AWT and JFC/Swing, as well as full JavaBeans(tm) support to allow users to add third party components to the tool suite.

Any platform that supports a Java Virutal Machine of version 1.1.4 or higher. Simplicity fully supports JDK 1.1, JDK 1.2 and JDK 1.3. using any combination of Windows 95/98/NT/2000, Linux, Solaris, OS/2 Warp, AIX, SCO UnixWare, HP-UX, IRIX, and Macintosh.
