LinuxPPC 1999 Q3 CD-ROM Set

LinuxPPC 1999 Q3 is the newest version of LinuxPPC Inc.'s popular Linux distribution. It offers major advances for the new Apple G3 computers, including the iMac, Blue & White Power Macintosh G3, and the 1999 PowerBook Q3, code-named "Lombard". There's also updated packages and x86 emulation software. Here's what you get:

The first CD is an installation CD that contains all the software you need to boot into Linux, plus our installation guide. There are literally hundreds of free, professional quality applications, servers and utilities. The second CD-ROM contains the entire source code for every program in the distribution, including the Linux kernel.

Powerful, easy-to-use installer

LinuxPPC 1999 Q3 improves on LinuxPPC 1999's legacy of ease of installation with an improved installer. It is the only Linux distribution for PowerPC computers to feature an easy-to-use graphical installer. If you'd like to see what it looks like, we have some screenshots for you to look at.

In addition to being easy to use, the LinuxPPC Installer offers very precise control over the installation. You can pick exactly which packages should be installed. You can even set up your Ethernet card or PPP dial-up account, or install new software over the Internet.

Major enhancements for iMac, Blue G3, and 1999 PowerBook G3 users

We've packed a whole host of improvements for Apple's newest G3 computers into LinuxPPC 1999 Q3. It's the first linux distribution to have built-in RAGE 128 video card support, a great improvement for Blue G3 users. There's new kernels for the Revision 1 and 2 Blue & White G3s, and a special kernel for the 1999 PowerBook G3. And major sound and video problems on all of these machines are fixed.

New packages and security updates

On top of all the good stuff for G3 owners, we've added lots of improved packages and new software. First off, we've bundled the new version 2.1.2-4a of the GNU C libraries (glibc). They're not installed by default, but server administrators and developers will appreciate the inclusion of the new glibc. There's also new GNOME updates, and the Bochs x86 processor emulator is included on the CD. And our installation guide is included as a PDF file right on the CD.
