Step 2: Create a Web Folder
Web Foldersthe Easy Way to Save to the Web
So, what is a Web folder? It's a shortcut from your Office 2000 program to a folder on a Web server. With Web folders, you can save information directly to a Web server on the Internet or your company intranet as easily as saving a document to your computer's hard disk. That means any information you want to share with friends or coworkerssuch as work documents, photographs, or newsis available to them on your Web site.
How to Create a Web Folder
Follow these quick steps to create a Web folder, where you can save documents, Web pages, or anything else to the Web site you set up in Step 1.
- On the Microsoft Windows® desktop, double-click My Computer and then the Web Folders icon (or, if you have Microsoft Windows 2000, double-click My Network Places).
- Double-click the Add Web Folders icon (for Windows 2000 systems double-click Add Network Places).
- In the Type the Location to Add field, type the Web site address (or URL) your Web hosting company or system administrator gave you in Step 1 (such as http://www.myhostingcompany.com/myname). Then click Next.
- In the Enter Network Password dialog box, type the user name and password you created in Step 1. Then click OK.
- In the Add Web Folder dialog box, type a familiar name for this Web folder. This is the title that will appear in the Web Folders list. Then click Finish.
Now that you have created your Web folder, you can transfer files to your Web site just by dragging them onto that folder or by saving directly from your Office 2000 program.
