Steve Steinke

Steve Steinke writes and edits Network Magazine features and tutorials, and sometimes interviews unsuspecting victims. Steve also often writes News & Analysis items. He is the author of Guide to Managing PC Networks: Tools and Techniques for Running LANs (Prentice Hall, 1995), and often writes about network and systems management. Some of his other special interests in the networking world include collaborative software ("groupware"), server and client operating systems, and how networks affect businesses and other organizations--by making them more (and less) efficient, by failing, by exposing them to risks, by speeding them up, and by connecting them more closely to the rest of the world.

Steve has a degree in philosophy from the University of Denver and has been known to engage in long-winded arguments about Wittgenstein, Foucault, and Derrida, not to mention whose turn it is to fold the laundry. He isn't writing a cyberpunk novel, but he's glad some people do. He's hooked on the NETMAG forum, as well as other CompuServe and Internet discussion groups.

Before there were any PC networks, Steve managed a consumer electronics repair shop. He spent some 11 years at ComputerLand Corporation, putting out a software review newsletter, writing and editing product reviews for the ComputerLand end-user magazine, and working on marketing programs with such vendors as Novell, Compaq, IBM, Microsoft, and 3Com. He's been at Network since the summer of 1994.
