Chat Gratification

I'm not a big fan of chat, but since I've been job searching, I've found it useful to go onto chat rooms and see if anyone is there. A site that I frequent when I'm depressed (and of course looking for a job can be very depressing at times) is Kvetch. It's a neat little site that allows you to vent on just about anything. And you can read other peoples kvetch's as well.

So I went onto the chat line for a few minutes just to see what was up. I ended up speaking to "tom" who was having some lady problems. He was a vietnam veteran who lost his legs in the war. He liked a woman who worked in his office but he was afraid to ask her out because of the fact that he was in a wheelchair.

I simply told him that the woman was shallow and that if she liked him, she'd look beyond his wheelchair. With a few more words of encouragement, tom was a new man. He went to ask the girl out for coffee right after our chat.

This may seem like something ordinary, but I can't begin to tell you the immense sense of gratification that I felt for being able to help another person whom I've never met and will undoubtedly never speak to again. I only hope that our own chat room will be could be this enjoyable.
