Create a Transparent .gif File in PhotoDraw 2000 Version 2
When you save a picture in GIF format in PhotoDraw™
2000 version 2, you can preserve
its areas of transparency so that a Web page background shows through. For
example, the picture below contains two transparent areas: the area
surrounding the paint palette, and the hole in the palette.
A picture saved as a transparent .gif file contains some
completely opaque areas and some completely transparent areas. When you
place a transparent .gif file on a Web page, the page background shows
through the image's transparent areas.
Transparent .gif files are especially useful when you
want a picture to appear against a colored or patterned background. For
example, suppose you create an image for a Web page with a patterned
background. If you saved the image as a .gif file without transparency or
as a .jpg file, then the area between the image and its selection box
would appear white, as shown in the following figure. On the other hand,
if you saved the image as a transparent .gif file, the patterned
background would show through the image's transparent areas, as shown.
Save an image as a transparent .gif file
Follow these steps to define the transparent color for a
.gif file:
- On the Save Send menu, click Save for Use
In.
- In the Save for Use In Wizard, click On the Web,
and then click Next.
- Click As a picture, and then click Next.
- Click Let the Web page background show through,
and then click Next.
- Click My Web page’s background is the following
solid color. Use the default color of white (RGB = 255, 255, 255),
and then click Next.
- Click Save. The Save As dialog box
appears so that you can specify the file name and location for this
.gif file.
If you want to compress the file further, you can save
it in JPEG instead of GIF format by clicking Fill them with the
background color in step 5 of this procedure. Note that files saved in
JPEG format do not contain transparent areas.
