Electricity FAQ
The main feature of the Electricity show is a Van De Graaff generator which makes the kids hair stand up. Also featured are magnets & electromagnets, a "slinky" which generates electricity, a giant light bulb, and a device that creates high voltage electricity that travels through the air to light up fluorescent light bulbs.
What things are used?
Among the things used are: A Van de Graaff Generator, an electric generator, a giant light bulb, a dynamo for making electricity, a powerful electromagnet, and many other devices.
What is a Van De Graaff generator?
That is the (in)famous machine that makes kid's hair stand up with the use of static electricity.
What do we need to provide?
2 Rectangular tables, 6-8 feet long.
A
microphone
An overhead projector
A screen or white
wall to project onto.
Is this the show where the kids hair gets raised?
Yes!
Is there any student involvement?
Yes, several students are needed for the experiments and demonstrations.
Is this the same as the electrical safety show the electric company gives?
No. Although we do talk about electrical safety in the show, this is not exclusively about safety. It is about the science behind how electricity works.
