Structures FAQ

Why, in the face of hurricanes, earthquakes, and time, do some structures stand and others collapse? This show presents concepts like compression, tension, torsion, shear, and transfer of load to explore how certain structures stand or fall. It also takes a look at shape and strength.

What things are used in the show?

Many familiar objects, such as paper cups, giant foam blocks, boards, and paper columns are used in the Structures demonstration.

What do we need to provide?

Two (2) six to eight foot long rectangular tables.
An extension cord.
A Microphone.
