Digex Tops Managed Web and Application Hosting Industry as Largest Microsoft Windows NT Service Provider
Company Announces Milestone as Windows NT Hosting Platform Leader
BELTSVILLE, MD, October 18, 1999
Digex, Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIGX) today announced the purchase of its 380th Microsoft SQL Server license, making the company Microsoft Corp.’s (Nasdaq: MSFT) largest customer for Windows NT-based servers and solutions. Digex now manages more Microsoft Internet technology than any other hosting provider and has more than 2,000 Microsoft licenses, including:
- More than 1,600 high-end Windows NT-based servers
- More than 200 Microsoft Site Server implementations
- More than 375 SQL Server installations
- More than 95 Microsoft Site Server Commerce Edition implementations
"Digex has become one of the leading hosting providers by offering secure, scalable, high-performance solutions for businesses implementing complex Web sites and Internet applications,” said Jeff Raikes, group vice president, Worldwide Sales and Support for Microsoft Corp. “We are pleased that Microsoft’s Internet technology has played a role in helping Digex achieve its strong position in the market.”
“Next to Microsoft’s own sites, Digex hosts more Microsoft Internet technology than any other company which translates into significant benefits for our customers,” said Rebecca Ward, group president of marketing, product management, and engineering for Digex. “Because of our strategic relationship with Microsoft, our engineers are closely involved in the testing and development of future versions of Windows NT, SQL Server, and Site Server, enabling us to provide the optimal infrastructure to support customers’ Windows NT-powered Web sites and Web-enabled business applications.”
Ward noted that Digex employs more than 200 skilled professionals who hold Microsoft technical certifications. Digex recently announced the Web and application hosting industry’s most complete solution for managed Windows NT-based servers – Digex SmartServicesSM Version 3.0. The company packed this offering with powerful features for security, backup, reporting, administration, and monitoring to provide the highest level of support and service for Windows NT-based Internet solutions. Digex also offers hosting customers of Windows NT complex stress testing and performance analysis services.
Pandesic LLC, the Internet company from Intel and SAP, knows first-hand the benefits of working with Digex and Microsoft. Earlier this year, Pandesic partnered with Digex for the application hosting component of the Pandesic E-business solution, which fully automates the entire e-business order life cycle by connecting the front-end to proven back-end processes. Along with the 40 installations of SAP R/3, the Pandesic solution encompasses Site Server Commerce 3.0, Windows NT 4.0, IIS, and SQL Server 7.0.
“The test of any e-business solution is how well it can scale with high growth and high volume,” said Harold Hughes, CEO of Pandesic. “Our relationship with Digex and Microsoft has provided our customers a solution that scales easily and quickly.”
The Microsoft and Digex relationship has been so successful that Digex was the first Web and application-hosting provider named to the exclusive Microsoft Certified Solution Provider (MCSP) Partner Advisory Council. The MCSP Partner Advisory Council works closely with Microsoft to provide guidance on key issues that ultimately shape the software leader's channel-based strategy for delivering customer solutions and services. Microsoft also has recognized Digex as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Provider Partner and a Microsoft beta facility.
