Web Applications Engineer
Job Description
The Web Applications engineer will be responsible for helping to
build our next generation of web systems based on a Java application
server environment. This position will be responsible for setting
up development and testing environments and database connectivity,
writing core objects and classes, and final deployment and
integration with existing content on www.vmware.com. Work will also
include supporting internal corporate database access through the
web. Ongoing tasks will include addition of new features on a
regular basis, maintenance and more general web engineering tasks
including log rotation and server maintenance/administration.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with the following:
- General web and server environments: Apache/Linux/UNIX,
IIS/NT, logging and measurement, session-tracking, cookies,
Perl/cgi-bin, sendmail/smtp, inn, etc.
- Java/Java application servers: BEA/Weblogic or a similar
system, servlets, Java web servers, session management, etc.
Extensive knowledge of Java programming in server-side
environments a must.
- Databases: MS SQLServer, ODBC/JDBC, connection pooling, data
replication/synchronization, experience with Oracle or other

Systems Administration
You will be the lead system
administrator with responsibility for smooth management of the
IT infrastructure for a company that will be expanding rapidly
in the next year. The environment includes software development,
support, marketing, sales and finance. You will be responsible
for UNIX system administration, management of the network and
firewalls and some NT administration. You will also have
responsibility for the 24x7 operation of the company web site
which is currently our major sales channel as well as our
newsgroups, a major source of communication with our
customers. You will work with a small team of administrators to
ensure that our systems run smoothly and that the infrastructure
evolves gracefully to meet new requirements.
