Dana, it's now November 20 and I *have* seen Amazon's TV commercial. It's not bad, but it's not exactly a masterpiece, particularly regarding production.
A men's chorus dressed in bright red sweaters sings, "Amazon.com has lots of toys" over and over again. The men are standing in a circle facing outward and as they sing they rotate like a carousel. But it looks to me like it's the camera that's rotating around the circle. Cheap production (understatement of the year).
Is Amazon is spending a cool billion to come up with stuff like this? Heaven help us all.

Sadly, the part of the company a networked market wants to talk to is
usually hidden behind a smokescreen of hucksterism, of language that rings
false-and often is.

Naomi,
It gets worse. The feature they're demonstrating (toys) can't deliver much
of what people really want (Pokemon). We'll cover that in this week's issue
(November 29)
