Pilots:

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) defines brownfields as abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination.

EPA's Brownfields Initiative is an organized commitment to help communities revitalize such properties both environmentally and economically, mitigate potential health risks, and restore economic vitality to areas where brownfields exist.

As part of its effort, EPA is funding many two-year demonstration pilots for redeveloping brownfields throught the Nation.

New Hotline Information

EPA Region 2, which covers New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands is providing the public with answers to questions regarding Region 2's Brownfields Initiative.

Hotline callers will be able to obtain contact information for the pilot sites, copies of application guidelines for brownfields assessment demonstration pilots, EPA guidance documents, and answers to browmfields questions.

How can the hotline be accessed?

The hotline is accessible to the public in New Jersey, New York, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands by calling 1-800-346-5009.   Outside Region 2, call 212- 637-4302.

Who can use the hotline?

The hotline can be used by anyone to obtain information about EPA's efforts to facilitate redevelopment of brownfields in Region2. The hotline will be useful to the community, state and local governments, urban planners, environmental lawyers, remedial contractors and others interested in brownfields.

What are the hours of operation for the hotline?

Hotline hours are Monday thrugh Friday 9:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. Closed holidays. Callers may leave messages on the hotline's voice mail during non-operational hours.
