posted: 2/21/99 QUESTION Here's my system:
I have been hearing lately a lot about overclocking. I know of someone who has a similar machine to mine that is overclocked and is running stable. I would be interested in doing this to my own machine. I own a Hewlett-Packard 300 MHz Celeron non-cache. The motherboard says it has an Intel AGP chipset 443 EX. Can I overclock my board? I noticed on the board the settings for increasing bus speed, but no jumpers are available. Please help if any help is available. --Alex ANSWER Celeron chips are clock-locked, so you'll have to change the bus speed instead of the clock multiplier, as you may already know. You mention that the motherboard doesn't have any jumpers for doing this. You may be out of luck. If you are saying that there are no metal pins to jump, then I wouldn't try overclocking that board. If you are saying that there are no actual jumpers that would fit across the existing metal pins, then you should just go out and buy some. However, be warned that the memory that is installed on your machine may only be spec'd out to run at 66 MHz. If that's the case and you bump the system bus up to 100 MHz, you will get instability. I have a feeling that HP wouldn't allow such easy overclocking on its machines, but hey, let us know how it works out for you!
