posted: 3/15/99 QUESTION Here's my system:
It's a Hitachi 4350 laptop being sold SUPER cheap since the motherboard is damaged. I was thinking of buying it and repairing the motherboard. Is that possible? I don't know much about laptops as far as upgradeablity. What should I do? --Arthur ANSWER Interesting quandary. First, is it still under warranty? If so, you can just get it fixed. If not, as I will assume, you will probably not be able to repair it yourself. I would suggest finding out who supports the laptop. Most times when you need to repair a laptop that's out of warranty you just have to call the company that makes it and find out if it or another company still does the repair work. Usually, the repairs are done for a flat fee of around US$300. If you add that onto the purchase price, do you still want to buy that laptop? Call Hitachi and find out what the dealio.
