Announce Teaming Agreement
Agreement Provides Commercial Support for
the Advanced Search Facility
- Concord, NH (August 11, 1998) - Hiawatha Island Software LLC Company
and Pilot Research Associates, Inc. announced today a working relationship in which the
two companies agree to pursue opportunities to develop products compatible with the
Advance Search Facility (ASF).
-
- ASF is a suite of software tools to provide searching against
collections of documents. It offers the opportunity to support a widespread, commonly
accepted search interface to any collection of online resources. It offers the ability to
let users search web sites in a standardized way, and it offers the ability to refer users
to other sources of relevant information, just as they refer users to you. This is a way
to help organizations make their information easy to find. The ASF project is funded by
the U.S. government-wide Information Technology Innovation Program. The Executive Office
of the President, the Department of Commerce, the U.S. Geological Survey, and other
agencies have articulated requirements.
- The ASF project is being designed to facilitate the development of
both a freely available products in which source code is provided as well as commercially
supported products. It is component-based, with well-defined programming interfaces that
allow for the easy replacement of any of the free, included components with commercial or
third party alternatives. Hiawatha Island Software LLC will develop custom versions of
their award winning Metadata Generator and analysis tools for both client and server side
use. Hiawatha Island Software LLC Company will help to design and support both freeware
and commercial versions of all utilities.
-
- "Hiawatha Island Software LLC Company is excited about working
on the ASF project", stated Robert B. Yonaitis, founder and Principal Engineer of
Hiawatha Island Software LLC. "The ability to provide tools which implement an
international standard for indexing, categorizing and searching the Internet will have a
tremendous impact on how we send and receive information around the world."
- "The ASF is all about having a standard, interchangeable parts
that empower communities to share information. Hiawatha Island Software LLC is especially
focused on a key success factor for ASF-tools that enhance the gathering of Meta data
about World Wide Web information. It is great to see such companies enhancing and
extending the ASF vision with freeware and commercial products that plug into the
international standards adopted by the Advanced Search Facility", said Eliot
Christian of the United States Geological Survey, founding architect of the Global
Information Locator Service (GILS).
