Banner Ads are Here to Stay
It may have an image problem (no pun intended), but for all of its bad press, the 468 x 60 banner remains far and away the most popular advertising form on the Internet, according to reports by AdKnowledge and AdRelevance.

Homebrew DSL: Upsetting the Phone Companies
You don't need the Internet to connect one home to one office. Instead, you just need a one pair of lines. This connection, known as "homebrew DSL" tends to upset the phone company because an alarm line costs very little, and DSL is sold as an expensive service.

The Latest Wireless Model
It's obvious that the wireless Internet will not be the same as the wired Internet. Although the power of being wired is substantial, you have to be online to harness it. That's not necessarily the case anymore, thanks to new technology from Internet2Anywhere.

JavaBoutique : Other Resources :

Java@Work

In this section, we're going to showcase some spectacular Java applet sites. They offer a glimpse of what Java is capable of. If you know of any other such sites, drop us a note.

 Applet Collections

ArcadePod Java Arcade
Directory of hundreds of free Java games to play on the web.

 Artificial Intelligence/Lifeforms

Biomorph Breeder
How about using Java to evolve trees into animal forms? Based on the biomorph concept described in Richard Dawkins' book "The Blind Watchmaker", this applet lets you experiment with breeding artificial creatures called biomorphs, causing them to gradually evolve into a diversity of forms.

 Astronomy@Work

GeoAstro Applet Collection
Collection of interactive Java applets that display the position of sun and moon on the horizon for any date, time and location, and on a world map with day and night regions. The times of rise and setting, the declination, the Greenwich hour angle and the equation of time are computed.

 Commercial Applets

Slangsoft Multi-Lingual Java
This company has a whole slew of Pure Java products powered by their Emule technology, which ensures that non-English text can be correctly entered and viewed by anyone. What Java is to cross-platform compatibility, Slangsoft is to cross-language compatibility.

 Development

JSPInsider
JSPInsider is based upon a group of developers sharing information to help the JSP community make the most out of JSP. The site includes articles, tutorials, free code, a special JSP jump start kit and general information to help programmers be successful in JSP.

 Games

Pimpernel Online Java Games
Pimpernel brings you a wide collection of online Java games including Supertris, Mahjongg, BlackJack and many more. Play the games (it's free!)

 Graphics@Work

Applet Text House
Applet Text House which allows users to create animated text applets via their browser without needing to know Java. The applets have individual URLs and effects such as shadows, rollovers, timed delay, and sounds.

 Science@Work

Karl MacDorman's "Filling in" Page
The site introduces some new experiments in visual completion or "filling in" as well as reproducing some famous experiments. The user is invited to participate in the experiments by using some Java applets. "Filling in" concerns the fundamental nature of representation in the brain.

 Other Cool Applet Sites

Spatial Relations: Putting Geodata and Documents on the Same Map
A profile of San Diego Gas & Electric's new web-based mapping and land records management system, which uses Java and COM to give users a global view.
