what you need to do is either to put linux on a separate hard drive or partition your current hard drive. You can use the freeware program FIPS (make sure you use version 1.5c if you have a FAT32 File system!!) or use partition magic.
As for installing linux - I can't help you with that unless you tell which distribution you're using.

Russell is right - you need to get Linux on the machine first. Installing WP8 should be pretty easy after that.
A UMSDOS linux installation is a possibility - but I have
had bad experiences of this route. The easiest thing to do is put another hard drive in the machine - this requires someone to open the case - and install linux on that. It won't interfere with win95. You may say this is pretty awkward but remember you probably didnt install windows on the Dell - most likely it came like that shipped.
If you don't know which Linux to try - use Redhat.

Subject: Don't use Red Hat ....
It's not that I don't like Red Hat, but for the average newbie who will probably want to dual boot thier system, Caldera is the better choice. The current version is OpenLinux 2.3 and comes with a version of partition magic to handle the disk partitioning stuff for you. It also has the windows emulator with it (WINE) so you can try out some of your Windows software under Linux.
