Advanced Component Development with COM+ and MTS

This course introduces developers to the tools used to successfully create applications in a client/server or Intranet environment. It focuses on creating applications using middle-tier (business layer) components written with COM+ using its object brokering and transactional services. Through explanations and a detailed workbook, students will learn about creating middle-tier components in COM+, how to install and use them with COM+, and how to handle security and scalability issues. They will understand the reusability and speed issues associated with both Web and COM+ front-ends. Through demonstrations and hands-on labs, they'll be able to create a fully functional electronic commerce application, complete with transactions, monitoring and remote administration.

Windows DNA Development Lab

Microsoft, Applied Information Sciences, Inc. (AIS), and Compaq have teamed up to open a Microsoft Windows DNA Development Laboratory located at the AIS corporate headquarters in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. The Windows DNA Lab is a new Windows DNA and COM+ educational and mentoring resource to serve corporate development teams and independent software vendors (ISVs). Microsoft and AIS technical staff provide expert architectural advice and technological direction to help customers develop customized applications using Windows DNA technologies, including COM+. Intensive one-week sessions for small customer groups make the lab an ideal starting point for organizations beginning COM+ application development projects. Session deliverables include sample code, design specifications, object models and a wealth of reference materials.

Understanding COM, MTS, and COM+

This one-day seminar provides an architectural description of these technologies. Beginning with the fundamentals of COM, it also describes Distributed COM (DCOM) before taking a detailed look at MTS. Finally, the seminar introduces the changes COM+ brings to today's MTS and describes the other new technologies in this next release.

Programming COM+

An all-in-one, week-long immersion into COM+ programming for developers who have little or no experience with COM and COM+. From the ABC's of interface-based programming to the basics of marshaling, the Interface Definition Language (IDL), the Active Template Library (ATL), Automation and type libraries, remote activation, security, asynchronous method calls, transactional programming, publish/subscribe event services, queued components, and dynamic load balancing, this course covers everything the beginning COM+ programmer needs to know to begin writing distributed applications utilizing the COM+ infrastructure in Windows 2000. DevelopMentor offers a number of COM+ training classes. In Guerrilla COM(+), the course is a 12-hour-a-day immersion in COM and MTS programming and design techniques that is led by one of the industry's leading experts. Rolling Thunder Computing

COM+ Training

Rolling Thunder provides in-house, hands-on programmer training courses in COM+. Covered topics include COM+ environment, transactions, synchronization, security, queued components, events and load balancing. They also offer full-day and half-day executive overview classes for managers. All classes are taught by David F. Platt, author of Understanding COM+ (Microsoft Press, 1999).

The course focuses on the practical application of the various services.
