On
the Internet Explorer download page, click the offering
you want to download.

When
the list of platforms appears, click the one for your
computer.
|
|
On
the page that appears, you will see either the name of
the offering you want or a drop-down box.
If you see the name only,
continue to step 4, below.
If you see a drop-down box, click
the installation option you want, then continue to step
4, below.
|
|
Click
the button next to the language option you want.
If you choose English,
click Next and continue to step 5, below.
If you choose Other, click Next.
You will see a page with a list of languages.
Click the language you want, then
click Next and continue to step 5, below.
|
|
On
the page that appears, click the Download button next to
one of the sites in the list.
|
|
When
the dialog box appears, follow the directions below for
your computer:
Windows
Macintosh
UNIX

We recommend you click "Run this program from its current
location."
|
|
| b) |
If you choose Save As, select the location on your
hard drive where you want to save the Internet Explorer
setup files. After the setup files have been saved to
your hard drive, and while you're still connected to the
Internet, run setup by double-clicking the setup.exe now
located on your hard drive. (For Internet Explorer 5
this will be ie5setup.exe, for Internet Explorer 4 this
will be ie4setup.exe.)

In the first setup dialog box,
select which package of Internet Explorer Components you
want to download.

Click "Download link to
disk."
|
|
| b) |
Click Desktop then click Save. After the download is complete, a
.bin or .hqx file will appear on your desktop.

Use your decompression program to
decompress and decode the file. If you have installed
Stuffit Expander, you will only need to drag the file
onto the Expander icon, and the file will unstuff to
reveal an installer icon. If you are running Internet
Explorer 3.0 or later, the file will decompress
automatically.

Double-click the Installer icon.
|
| e) |
Read the End User License Agreement
and click Accept.
|
| f) |
Read the detailed instructions and
click Next. If you are
installing with the Active Setup Installer, choose
whether to download only or to install completely, then
click Next. Choose a type of
installation by doing one of the following:
Choose a preconfigured installation
option.
Choose Custom Install to change the
configuration, then click the boxes to the left of each
component you want to install. (To view a component's
description, click the box containing an "I"
to the right of the component).

In the Install
Location area, go to the pop-up menu and
choose the disk and folder where you want to install
Internet Explorer. Complete the installation by doing
one of the following:
If you are
using the Active Setup Installer, click the Use Proxy
checkbox if you use a proxy server to connect to the
Internet, in which case you must also enter the server
name and port. Click Next. Select the download location
closet to you and click Next to download your customized
installer. Then click Next again to launch you customized
installer. When the installation is complete, you are
ready to run Internet Explorer.
If you have not using the Active Setup Installer,
click Install. After
installation is complete, click Restart. You are now ready to run
Internet Explorer.

In the File Download dialog box,
you must choose the default, "Save this file to
disk."

| b) |
Make the new download executable:
"chmod +x ieXsetup" (where "X" is
the version number in "ieXsetup").
|

Run the executable; for example:
"./ieXsetup".
|
| d) |
When Setup prompts for an
installation directory, either accept the default
directory or type in a new directory path and name.
(Note that installing to the default directory,
/usr/local/microsoft, may require that you be logged in
as root.)

| e) |
After Internet Explorer is
installed, you can start the browser by running
"installation directory/bin/iexplorer".
