Download Python for MS-Windows Now!

Here are instructions for downloading and installing 32-bit Python binaries for various Windows versions. There is another collection of binaries for DOS, 16-bit Windows 3.1(1), and OS/2 in the wpy sub-directory of the Python ftp tree. It supports a different (more portable, but less elaborate) GUI API.

Note: Win32s (ie, Windows 3.1) and "manual install" versions are no longer supported (don't blame me - its my tools! OK - maybe blame me for the choice of tools :-)

General Instructions

Important: If you do not have a very recent Microsoft Internet Explorer installed on your system, it is higly recommended you install the Microsoft OLE Update (oadist.exe) (Win 95 and NT4 users only!). Click here for additional information.

The main distribution comes as a auto-installation .EXE - simply download the file listed below, and execute it. Follow the instructions, and the installation will begin.

Full uninstall is supported. Note however, that the uninstall will remove any files actually installed, and not additional files created by running the program (eg, .pyc files, WinHelp indexes, etc.). After uninstall, you may need to remove the directories and a few temp files manually.

Windows 95 and Windows NT

• Get the readme file - pythonwin-10.txt (1.6 KB)
• Download pythonwin-10.exe (3.5 MB) and run it!
