Call for Tutorials
IMPORTANT DEADLINES Proposal submission deadline: Monday, October 30, 2000 Notification of acceptance: Monday, December 4, 2000 Final tutorial materials due: Monday, January 8, 2001 The Python conference will open with a full day of tutorials on topics that are of interest to Python users. The goal is to offer a diverse set of tutorials that cover a wide range of application domains and are suitable for attendees with varying levels of expertise. Ideally, every attendee at each tutorial will walk away with new knowledge that can be put to immediate use.
A tutorial might develop a given topic in depth, or perhaps explore various approaches to…and toolkits for…handling a specific type of problem. While there will not be sufficient time for hands-on participation, a tutorial that demonstrates the development of a manageable but non-trivial application involving one or more toolkits would be particularly useful.
While new topics are strongly encouraged, some duplication from previous conferences is expected, and past presenters are encouraged to update and resubmit their tutorials. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
- Graphical User Interface toolkits (tkinter, wxpython, pygtk, pyqt,…)
- Graphics Generation (plotting, opengl, pdfgen, graphite,…)
- Distributed Objects (fnorb, ILU, omniORB,…)
- Web Application Development
- Zope
- Database Programming
- Python on Win32 Platforms
Tutorials generally consist of half-day sessions, and the plan is to offer 10 tutorials: five in the morning and five in the afternoon. However, requests to present a full-day tutorial will be considered if the topic is particularly meaty.
Tutorial presenters will receive free admission to the conference and a small honorarium.
How to Submit Tutorial Proposals
Tutorial proposals should be submitted by electronic mail in ASCII to Garry Hodgson, the Python 9 Tutorials Chair. Each proposal should include a one-page abstract and an outline of the tutorial topics (and subtopics). It should also indicate if the tutorial requires a half- or a full day.
