ARM, Texas Instruments Team On 3G Chips
ARM, Texas Instruments Team On 3G Chips
(11/02/99, 10:38 a.m. ET)
By Reuters

British microchip designer ARM Holdings said on Tuesday that it will collaborate with Texas Instruments on next-generation cellular wireless devices.

ARM, whose market capitalization has soared to 3.4 billion pounds ($5.6 billion) since it was floated 19 months ago, said products would include smart phones, personal communicators, and wireless Internet-enabled products.

ARM said the collaboration would aim to deliver the performance and low power consumption required to run real-time audio and video applications on wireless devices.

ARM's share price closed at 17.97 pounds ($29.61) on Monday, a level that would see it enter the FTSE 100 stock index when the index is next revised in December. The stock ended 1998 at 3.20 pounds ($5.27).
