Intro
This page is supposed to give you background
information on different hardware and software technologies. The information provided is
supposed to appeal to the technically informed reader who wants to go a bit more in depth.
I will still make sure that the stuff won't be too much over the head of the average
reader of Tom's Hardware Guide.
The information on this page will not only be provided
by me, but also by a well reputet analyst, Bert McComas. Here a little introduction he did
about himself:
| For those of you who
are interested, I am pleased to offer a bit of background information on myself. I am an independent market researcher in the field of PC semiconductors (aka
InQuest Market Research). My emphasis is on technology and product strategies rather than
on numbers or market share (which is the emphasis of most other market researchers). I
provide analysis on product strategies, new technologies and system architectures to many
of the major semiconductor makers. I cover graphics, multimedia, CPUs, DRAM, chipsets,
etc. I deliver this analysis to my customers via extensive reports (100-300 pages) and
through consulting.
Prior to establishing InQuest, I spent about a decade in the roles
of Strategic Marketing Manager or Director of Marketing for several different
semiconductor manufacturers in the Silicon Valley. I have worked at LSI Logic,
Mosel-Vitelic, VLSI Technology, and a few others.
Tom and I became acquainted in the Fall of 97 at Microprocessor
Forum and at Comdex. We quickly observed in each other a common approach to our work, and
have since been looking for opportunities to work together.
My contributions to Tom's Hardware Guide will tend toward
architectural analysis and analysis of new technologies. I usually focus on stuff that
doesn't exist yet or hasn't matured yet. In the process, I may do some testing of existing
hardware, but not to the extent that Tom does.
I can be reached by email at bert@tomshardware.com.
