Rant about Lazy Programmers

Has anyone else noticed that every time a computer's processors, minimum RAM, and hard drives increase, application developers make bigger and sloppier versions?

Microsoft is the worst of the violators, too, in my mind. After the original hype and hustle to release the Windows 95 interface, you would think that in the 5 years since they would have taken the time to sit down and recode a REAL operating system, one that's efficient and cleanly coded and NOT layered over DOS.

Here's a favorite example that makes me irate:

• Turn on the computer - 128 MB of RAM
• Windows 98 loads
• Start the System Monitor - 64 MB physical memory taken (Good God! 64 MB just to sit there and stare at me!)
• Run two applications - Hauppauge WinTV32 and RealProducer
• System Monitor reports 128 MB physical Memory used and a 28 MB swap file
• Close All Applications except system monitor . . . 2 MB physical RAM available

GIVE ME BACK MY FLIPPIN' Memory!!! !@## programmers . . .
