NetBeans 7.0 Beta 2 Now Available for Download

Interested in previewing the next generation release of the popular NetBeans IDE?  If so, you'll want to check out the NetBeans 7.0 Beta 2, just released this past week.

NetBeans 7.0 delivers a large range of features, but perhaps most exciting to developers will be inclusion of support for targeting JDK 7.  In the first beta, NetBeans 7.0 added improved support for integrating your applications with Oracle Database and included a number of enhancements for working with application servers such as Oracle WebLogic and Glassfish as well as support for the language changes introduced in Project Coin and a number of code editor enhancement

With NetBeans 7 Beta 2, the team has improved quality and performance and has included a preview of Git support. To learn more about the beta or to download a copy, check out the official announcement on NetBeans.org

NetBeans 7.0 beta available now - adds support for JDK 7 and much more!

The NetBeans team has just announced availability of the first beta release of NetBeans 7.0.  NetBeans 7.0 delivers a large range of features, but perhaps most exciting to developers will be inclusion of support for targeting JDK 7.  In particular, the beta adds support for the language changes introduced in Project Coin as well as a number of code editor enhancements.

In addition to support for JDK 7, the 7.0 beta also improves support for integrating your applications with Oracle Database and includes a number of enhancements for working with application servers such as Oracle WebLogic and Glassfish.

NetBeans 7.0 beta also introduces support for editing HTML5 to help you build your web applications with the latest technologies.  In addition, as Thomas Kurian announced at JavaOne, future versions of the Java client runtime will include support for rendering HTML5 so this new functionality could prove quite useful for Java developers that plan to use HTML for their client-side Java application user interfaces.

JavaFX 1.3.1 released, improves experiences for end-users and developers

The Java team has released JavaFX 1.3.1 to improve the development of client-side Java applications. Version 1.3.1 includes a number of important enhancements along with a number of bug fixes and new documentation.
 
In addition, NetBeans 6.9.1 is also available now and includes support for the latest version of the JavaFX SDK. Here are some of the key JavaFX improvements:
  • Start-up Improvements:  JavaFX 1.3.1 includes a new customizable progress indicator and leverages enhancements in Java SE update 21.  The progress indicator can help provide an indication to the end-user of how much time is left in the start-up process.  To learn more about optimizing the start-up experience, please review the new JavaFX Application Startup Experience tutorial
  • Improved Debugging: NetBeans 6.9.1 adds support for the JavaFX 1.3.1 SDK and delivers a number of debugging-related enhancements
  • Documentation: The release includes a CSS Reference Guide and improved JavaFX API documentation

Netbeans 6.9 adds official support for new visual editing capabilities and JavaFX 1.3

The Netbeans team shipped release 6.9 last week, delivering a wide range of exciting new capabilities that include improvements to the core platform, better support for working with web technologies, C/C++, Java EE, OSGi and more.  But one of the most exciting new features is improved support for JavaFX.  In particular, the new release delivers the following JavaFX-related improvements:

  • JavaFX Composer for form-like UI components with states and access to various data sources
  • Added and improved editor hints and refactoring
  • Enhanced Palettes for JavaFX Shapes, Colors, Effects, and Charts
  • Improved code formatting

In particular, the JavaFX Composer delivers a highly valuable tool that enables visual editing of form-based user interfaces.  Those of you who are familiar with Matisse will recognize that the JavaFX Composer has been designed along the same lines and early reaction to the JavaFX Composer has been overwhelmingly positive!  For instance, check out this great article from Eric Bruno on using the JavaFX Composer for building a client-side interface to view/edit information from a JDBC data source.

In addition, the release includes the following Java improvements:

  • Java Debugger breakpoint grouping, debugger attach parameter history
  • Support for annotation processors in the editor, configurable in the Project Properties
  • New Applet and Web Start (JNLP) support
  • Improved navigation in Stack Trace Analyzer and URLs, Go To Overridden/Implemented Method action
