Just took the time to catch up on the Java Spotlight podcast and its proving to be a wealth of valuable information including updates, news and insights. 

In episode #2 the Java Spotlight crew catches up with Steve Harris, Oracle's Senior VP of Application Server Development.  In this fascinating podcast, Steve Harris discusses how Oracle is learning to be more open in its new role as the steward of Java.  He also discusses the important role that GlassFish is playing in the Oracle portfolio as the reference implementation for Java EE, as a preview of future technology, and as an excellent choice for developers looking for a fast and lightweight application server. To conclude the interview, Steve also provides some insight into the future direction of the Java EE platform including better support for cloud computing and platform as a service requirements.

Coinciding with our announcement this past week of the new Java SE for Embedded release, this weeks edition of the Java Spotlight includes an interview with Greg Bollella, Oracle's Chief Architect for embedded Java.  Greg discusses how the increasing complexity of embedded software is driving a need for solutions that go beyond the traditional C/C++ environments that many of today's embedded developers have grown up with.  He argues that the timing is right for embedded developers to begin considering Java as the platform of choice for the next generation of embedded devices.
