WebWinery credit card orders are fully protected by the SECURE Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. This WebBusiness uses the WebSTAR/SSL server, with a Digital ID supplied by the Verisign Corporation. This system allows your Web Browser, if so equipped, to support a fully secured (Encrypted) credit card transaction across the Internet. An example of a Browser which supports this functionality is Netscape, which can be obtained here.

The WebWinery is a unique organization, which provides Internet marketing to the wineries of the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Because of this, you must place separate orders for each winery, since they are the actual seller and shipper of the wine.

The way this works is that you browse each winery. If you find a wine that you like, then use the button on each wine page that "remembers" the wine. This is entered into a database which keeps track of each wine, uniquely, for you. This is like putting the wine into a personal "shopping basket". This action only means that you are interested enough in the wine to "save" it. There is no commitment implied. We won't empty an abandoned shopping cart for 24 hours. Go ahead and go to dinner if you get called away. Be patient, adding a wine to your shopping cart takes about 8 seconds.

Since each winery is unique, what really happens is that you have a separate shopping cart for each winery. Note that when you add a wine, you get a summary page of what is in the unique winery shopping cart where you put the wine. Note the hot links in the summary of the wines. These make it easy to take something out of the shopping cart.

When you are ready to "Review Order" and check-out, then use the SECURE order form button, or the INSECURE ORDER button. These are located on the home page of each winery home page. If you use the SECURE option, then you should see your browser enter secure mode. Fill out the order, with the requested information. If you use the INSECURE option, DO NOT ENTER YOUR CREDIT CARD NUMBER. Be sure to select the payment mode on your order form to reflect your choice of payment before placing the order.

Our recommendation is to take an Electronic passport tour of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Pick a single winery, and become an expert on that winery. Order a mixed case of their wines (10% discount!), and build your own database of your likes and dislikes. It took us six years and lots of driving (an adventure in itself!). You can do it from the comfort of your computer position.

If you live outside the Santa Cruz Mountains area, its very likely that you will be able to amaze your friends for years on the quality and uniqueness of your wines. But we won't mind if you tell them your secret. After all, when you get invited over, you'll reap the benefits. And remember, someday you will visit the San Jose/San Francisco/Santa Cruz area. When you do, you'll have a wine-maker who will know who you are, and is small enough to personally welcome a good customer.
