Yahn Bernier, bsp/networking guru for Valve Software, is here to answer your questions. Feel like asking a complex question about texture sizes and their impacts on your maps? Ask away! Not sure what video card to buy? Well, Yahn might be able to help you out there. Ticked that your mom keeps raiding your Twinkie stash and you're left with nothing to eat when you get the munchies? Well, he might be able to help you on that one...

Send all your queries to askyahn@halflife.org

Keep a couple of things in mind as you ask away:

  • Keep your comments/questions appropriate (and watch the language as well). This is, after all, a family site...
  • There may be some questions specific to present/future Valve products that Yahn will be unable to answer for contract/trademark/trade secret reasons. Keep this in mind as you ask your questions.
  • We're looking for originality here, people. So please, no "Why does the Voodoo3's 256x256 texture size suck so much?" type questions.
  • Once you ask your questions, they do in fact become property of Halflife Dot Org. We reserve the right to edit your queries for language, content and spelling.
  • You can request that your email address be posted with your query, however, by default, we will not give out that information.

Yahn buries the opposition in this week's (much delayed) edition. Video cards, netgraphs and curves all fall before his might (*chuckle*) SO sit back, relax and enjoy.Enjoy.

Cheers!

This week's Yappin' is an interesting one. yahn tackles some toughies, along with some easier types. Oh, and there's a screensaver and a Steve Bond quote thrown in, just to keep things interesting. Enjoy.

Woo hoo! The response to Yappin' With Yahn has been phenomenal so far! Becauce of such a great success, we have a great first edition lined up! This week has Yahn pimpin' out some great responses, answering questions pertaining to texture problems, BSP, Worldcraft's future, and creating a HINT brush! Gary McTaggart stepped in to take a question on the future of 3d acceleration! Also included in this edition is a picture of Yahn's Windows desktop while reading e-mail and compiling some code in Visual C++! You can also see 'da man himself in his work attire at the Valve Software offices.

Sadly however, we cannot have every question answered due to Yahn's extremely busy schedule. We only choose the best to send to Yahn, but if we missed a few good ones this week, all the questions that were sent in to us have been saved for futher use. However, in the next couple of days I will attempt to answer some of the general questions that everyone may have. And...for your viewing pleasure...we have started a new section for the hillariously funny questions that we received and didn't fit the bill. For your daily dose of excitement, check out this week's rejects page!

Keep those questions coming! As you will see, if you have a problem that has been itching you forever, Yahn has most of the answers and writes up phenomenal responses. If you want to see phenomenal responses every week, fire those questions over to us at askyahn@halflife.org!

Cheers!

Howdy all, and welcome to the inaugural edition of "Yappin' With Yahn," your opportunity to get to talk to ace developer, Yahn Bernier, of Valve Software fame. We here at the Org are quite excited about this new development, but we require your assistance to make this work. We need your questions and comments to send along to Yahn, so please, send us your goods! Hopefully, you all will use this opportunity to the fullest extent, otherwise we're going to have to make up the questions ourselves (which I don't think anyone particularly wants to see, since we're all a little deranged over here...).

Cheers!
