Live Hits Counter Applet 4.0

Usage

Here is a step-by-step instruction how to use it for your homepage.
  • Ordering
The first step is to order the CGI script and the Java Applet at the Ordering page.

  • Script file
After you have ordered a license, we will send you a ZIP file containing the CGI script and the Java Applet. It comes with a detailled description of the valid keywords and parameters of the script file. Please note that you cannot view any data without the script file defining your site structure.

Create and test the script file for your site. Please note that your tree structure can be different from the physical link structure. Optimize it for the easiest navigation within your pages.

  • INI file
The LiveCounter.ini file must be customized for your server. It contains four lines:
    • Line 1: Data path
Path to the directory where the data is stored, including the trailing slash, relative to the CGI-BIN directory. You should store your data in the directory where your HTML files are.
    • Line 2: Default file
The filename that is opened when the user specifies the domain/directory name only, e.g. http://www.better-homepage.com/. Normally, this is index.html.
    • Line 3: Domain / directory name
Your domain (including directory) of your homepage. It starts with http:// and ends with the leading / (slash).
    • Line 4: Cookies?
This line contains the value "1" if you want to use cookies (they are used to count the unique visitors per day and the comback visitors). If you do not want to use cookies, this line contains the value "0".
Don't forget to set the Applet parameter "cookie" identical.
    • Line 5: Time zone
Enter your local time zone (compared to GMT - London - time) here.
Don't forget to set the Applet parameter "timezone" identical.
    • Line 6: empty

  • HTML code for counting pages
Finally, you have to add the counter HTML code into each file that you want to count. Please cut and paste the HTML code from the file "html.txt" from the ZIP file into your pages.

  • HTML code (for counting links)
You can also count the clicks on external links. To do this, please replace the HTML code for the link with the new HTML code for counting the link, just cut and paste the sample code from the file "html.txt" to your page.

  • View your data
Now you are ready to view your counter data.
Upload Example.html (or a renamed file) to the directory where your data is, upload also LSC*.class and LSCStatus.gif and open Example.html in your browser.
