 Live Hits Counter Applet 4.0 User's Guide Overview The "Live Hits Counter" is not only a counter, but also a Java Applets for a complete analysis of the hits to all (depending on your service level) of your pages. It shows you the hits per file, the hits during the last 30 days per file and overall, the average view time for each page, how your visitors navigate (internal links) and from where they come to your pages (external links), as well as the operating systems and browsers that they use, the countries where they come from, the hours of the day and days of the week where you get the most visitors. In the following chapters you will find a detailled description of the usage of the Applet and the interpretation of the results. Areas of the Applet The Applet is divided in three areas (for details see the chapters below):
Status Bar  The status area has three status information rectangles:
Tabs  Using the tabs you can change the current data view display in the "main" area. The currently selected symbol is shown emphasized, the title area below has the same color. When you move the mouse over a symbol, a small help text is displayed additionally. The available view are (from left to right)
Hits/Time View  The "Hits/Time View" displays the hits/time per file in a tree-view like form that you can define in your customizable script file. The page in the document symbol (centered page) is the current "main" object. In the left side there are the incoming links (pages that links to the centered page), on the right side the outgoing links of the page (pages to which the centered page links). For the selected item of the outgoing links, the outgoing links of this page are also displayed. Items that are links (and not pages) are displayed in blue color. There are two symbols displayed before each item for viewing additional information about the page: The globe symbol shows the references (links) to the page (where your visitors come from), the statistics symbol the hits during the last 30 days. An additional "info" symbol is displayed before the centered page to get additional information about the hits from the incoming links, the other internal pages and external sites. The numbers below the item text are the total number of hits to this page, the number of hits today, or the average view time of the page, depending on the title bar selection. By clicking on the arrow at the left/right side of the title area you can switch to the other data. Behind the hits numbers there are delta number of hits displayed in green color if there was a change since the last reload of the data (e.g. (+2)). In the today's hits view, the number of actual visitors of a page is additionally shown in brackets (only of there is a visitor currently viewing the page) behind the number of hits. The following actions can be done in this view:
References  The "References" window shows the external and internal references (links) for the selected page. External references are URLs on which the visitor clicked on a link to this page. Internal references are links to this page within your own homepage. The list is sorted by the number of hits. The first column shows the number of hits that you got from this URL, the second column the URL itself. Click on the "External" or "Internal" button at the top to switch the view. By using the "All", "Today" or "Yesterday" buttons you can limit the data. Click on the single arrow to scroll one line up/down or one character left/right, and click on the double arrow to scroll one page up/down or left/right. To close the dialog, click on the red "close" sign in the upper right corner or click outside the dialog. When you move the mouse cursor over the dialog, the actual line is displayed in blue color. By clicking with the left mouse button, you can open this URL in a separate browser window. 30 days statistic  The "30 days statistic" window shows the hits to the selected file (or overall) during the last 30 days. The right-most point shows the today's hits, the left-most point the hits 30 days ago. The y-axis shows the number of hits, the top value is the highest number of hits during the last 30 days. When you open the overall hits, you will see two points for each day: The number of page views in yellow color and the number of unique visitors in green color. E.g. if one visitor views 3 pages of your site, the number of page views will be increased by 3, while the number of visitors is increased by 1. Please note that cookies are used to determine this value. Depending on different user settings in the browsers this value might not be absolutely correct. Move the mouse over a rectangle to get the details about this point (date and number of hits). To close the dialog, click on the red "close" sign in the upper right corner or click outside the dialog. Operating Systems View  The "Operating Systems View" shows the percentage of the operating systems that your visitors used to access your pages. The diagram shows the percentage in graphical form, while the listbox on the right side displays the percentage in numbers. The small color rectangle indicates the associated color arc in the diagram. Click on the single arrow to scroll the listbox one line up/down or one character left/right, and click on the double arrow to scroll the listbox one page up/down or left/right. The following operating systems are counted:
Browsers View  The "Browsers View" shows the percentage of browsers that your visitors used to access your pages. The total number of different browsers is shown behind the title. The diagram shows the percentage in graphical form, while the listbox on the right side displays the percentage in numbers. The small color rectangle indicates the associated color arc in the diagram. Click on the single arrow to scroll the listbox one line up/down or one character left/right, and click on the double arrow to scroll the listbox one page up/down or left/right. The following browsers are counted:
Countries View  The "Countries View" shows the percentage of countries where your visitors come from. The total number of different countries is shown behind the title. The diagram shows the percentage in graphical form, while the listbox on the right side displays the percentage in numbers. Both the country abbreviation (e.g. .com, .de) and the full country name are shown. The small color rectangle indicates the associated color arc in the diagram. Please note that it is not always possible to find out the country, so not all hits can be counted here. Click on the single arrow to scroll the listbox one line up/down or one character left/right, and click on the double arrow to scroll the listbox one page up/down or left/right. Hours View  The "Hours View" gives you the hits per time of the day. The diagram shows the percentage in graphical form, starting with the first hour of the day. The hours are in the specified (local) time zone from your .ini file. To get more information about one hour, move the mouse pointer over the graphic. The hour is displayed darker and a small box shows additional information. Days View  The "Days View" gives you the hits per day of the week. The diagram shows the percentage in graphical form, while the listbox displays the percentage in numbers, starting with Sunday. The hits are counted in the specified (local) time zone from your .ini file. To get more information about one day, move the mouse pointer over the graphic. The day is displayed darker and a small box shows additional information. Comeback Visitors View  The "Comeback Visitors View" shows the number of visitors that came back to your site more than once within 30 days. To get more information about one day, move the mouse pointer over the graphic. The bar is displayed darker and a small box shows additional information. |
