Early Access Developer Release Software
The following Java platform software is now available for download on the JDC:

Java HotSpotTM Performance Engine 1.0 for SPARCTM Processor/Solaris Operating Environment Released
This release provides the Java Hotspot performance engine for use in the SPARC processor/Solaris operating environment. For more information, see:

JavaTM 2 Enterprise Edition V1.2 Specification Released
The Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) specification provides a detailed definition of the technical standards for J2EE. Topics covered include security, deployment, transaction management, naming, interoperability, and supporting APIs. The spec also covers some future directions for the J2EE platform, including upcoming requirements and milestones. In keeping with Java Software's Community Process goals, the current version of the spec is the Public Draft, provided for review and feedback from the developer community. JavaSpacesTM Technology Kit (JSTK) 1.0 Released
The JSTK provides implementations of the JavaSpaces architecture specified in the Jini technology extended core platform . The 1.0 release of the JSTK software consists of the JavaSpaces Evaluation Binary Kit, its API documentation, release notes for those classes and interfaces, examples, and references to the specific copyrights and licenses that protect each of these components. JavaTM TV API spec v0.9.0 Released
The Java TV API provides access to functionality unique to a digital television receiver, for example audio/video streaming. For more information, see:

JavaTM Advanced Imaging 1.0 API Released
The JavaAdvanced Imaging API allows sophisticated high-performance image processing to be incorporated in Java applets and applications. The API implements a set of core image processing capabilities, such as image tiling, regions of interest, and deferred execution. For more information, see:

RMI over IIOP Standard Extension Released
The Remote Method Invocation (RMI) over Inter-Orb Protocol (IIOP) delivers CORBA-compliant capabilities to the Java(tm) 2 platform and to JDK(tm) 1.1. RMI over IIOP is released as a standard extension. For more information, see:

JavaPhoneTM API Specification Released
The API provides network operators, service providers and content creators with an open platform on which to develop and deploy scalable, cross-platform services and secure, dynamic functionality to wireless smartphones and Internet screenphones. For more information, see:

Java 3DTM 1.1.2 API Released
The Java 3D API enables the creation of three-dimensional graphics applications and Internet-based 3D applications. This release adds a utility to generate compressed geometry for use with the Java 3D API's Compressed Geometry node. For more information, see:

JavaServer PagesTM Version 1.0 Specification Released
JavaServer Pages (JSP) technology provides an easy and powerful way to build web pages with dynamically-generated content. The JSP specification is the product of an industry-wide initiative led by Sun Microsystems, Inc. For more information, see:

JavaMailTM 1.1.2 Released
The JavaMail API provides a set of abstract classes that can be used to build mail and messaging applications. This release of the JavaMail API adds implementation of the IMAP and SMTP servers. For more information, see:

Java Naming and Directory InterfaceTM (JNDI) 1.1/COS Naming Update Released
JNDI is a standard extension to the Java platform. It provides applications with a unified interface to multiple naming and directory services in the enterprise. This release contains class libraries and service providers for COS naming. For more information, see:

Java Accessibility Utilities Package Released
This package provides additional support for assistive technologies such as top-level window location and global event tracking. For more information see:

JavaBeansTM Activation Framework (JAF) 1.0.1 Released
This is a maintenance release of the JAF standard extension. With JAF, developers who use Java technology can take advantage of standard services to determine the type of an arbitrary piece of data, encapsulate access to it, discover the operations available on it, and instantiate the appropriate bean to perform the operation. Java Shared Data Toolkit (JSDT) 1.5 Released
The Java Shared Data Toolkit allows developers to easily add collaboration features to applets and applications. Enterprise developers can use the Java Shared Data Toolkit software to create network-centric applications, such as shared whiteboards or chat environments. For more information, see:

Java Transaction API (JTA) 1.0.1 Specification Released
The JTA specifies standard Java interfaces between a transaction manager and the participants in a distributed transaction system: the resource manager, application server, and transactional applications. For more information, see:

JDBCTM 2.0 Standard Extension Source and Binary Released
The JDBC API provides access to a wide variety of relational databases. This is a standard extension that is provided as a separate download. For more information, see:

Developer Programs and Resources

Java Look and Feel Design Guidelines
A new publication, Java Look and Feel Design Guidelines, is now available. The publication provides essential information for designers and developers who create cross-platform applications and applets in the Java programming language. The book presents design guidelines for software that uses the Java(tm) Foundation Classes (JFC). This includes visual design, layout, and the graphical hallmarks of the Java look and feel.

New Web-Based Education Solution Announced
A new web-based education solution from Sun will be available August 1. The solution presents modularized courseware for the Java programming language and newly developed courses on Jini(tm) technology.

For a limited time, developers who need technical support can purchase the Developer Access Online Per-Incident offering at at reduced price of $100 (normally the price is $200).
