Background
/ Software Tools
Early this summer HiSoftware was contacted by some of our
federal and state partners with a specific problem. The
problem was child safety on the internet. What was needed was a
way to measure and monitor responsible rating of sites and some
tools to accomplish the task!
The result was a plan for
Federal sites to utilize policies and site use of PICS
and Privacy Statements, which could be verified quickly.
The tool, Hi-CheckIt!, was developed by
HiSoftware. HI-CheckIt! allows local and Web based
crawling of Web site documents to validate PICS and Privacy
Policy compliance.
Now a Webmaster can crawl
thousands of documents in minutes for compliance to policy. But
how can these same Webmasters update documents that did not
follow policy? HiSoftware also has a solution for this in our
free ASF
Package for government users. After identifying pages that are
not in compliance, government Webmasters can easily update their
Web documents to be in compliance for PICS and privacy. Simply
put, these tools help to make the net safe for kids!
