Applaud JavaTM Technology!
| George
Lo, Adaptivity |
"With JavaTM technology,
we built platform independent distributed software solutions quickly
and easily. For our customers, it doesn't matter what type of machines
they have, as long as a Java runtime virtual machine* is available,
our software can be deployed."
|
| James
P. Lennane, bid&ask, Inc. |
"Java technology was at
the core of bidnask.com since the Product Trading Floor -- where the
market sets prices through a realtime consumer/vendor negotiation
process -- was first conceptualized. Only Java technology allows us to "push"
information to our clients within 2 seconds of any transaction move.
Our development team, which has worked together nearly 30 years, finds
Java technology to be one of the most exciting systems tools they've dealt with."
|
| Michael
Lehman, Cereus Design Corp. |
"I've been
developing programmer tools for nearly 30 years. In that time I've
seen many valiant efforts to reach the goal of universal portability.
I believe that Java technology is finally a solution that can (and will) succeed.
It has reduced our development times by a factor of at least 5 and
increased the quality of our products dramatically due to the robust
nature of the Java language and especially the Java platform. I'm
sold on the Java platform as a significant leap forward in the quest for increased
productivity and higher quality."
|
| Tim
McDonald, Digital Knowledge Assets |
"All Digital
Knowledge Assets' (dka) knowledge tools and capabilities are written
to the 100% Pure Java certification requirements. This choice was made in response
to several dka technology requirements: 1) a commitment to open solutions,
2) flexibility through objects and 3) no client-side software installation.
dka's use of Java technology allows our users to access dka knowledge tools and
capabilities from any Java technology-enabled web browser in the world."
|
| Len
Kain, ImaginOn, Inc. |
"The advantage
that Java technology brings to ImaginOn is more than just
"Write Once, Run AnywhereTM."
That is true, we have a single code base that works on many platforms
and operating systems. However, the cost of development for any individual
platform is significantly lower with Java technology. The
Java programming language is less complicated,
more reliable, and of course, more portable than any other software
language available. Parts of one product are, literally, cut and pasted
into another, without bugs. This reduces the cost of development substantially
and reduces time to market resulting in our ability to give the customer
significantly better value than ever before."
|
| Reno
Marioni, Infoscape, Inc. |
"Our customers
are already reaping the benefits of using our Java technology-based Fresco products
to not only assemble sophisticated database applications in record
time but also to deploy these applications instantly and seamlessly
to all major computing platforms. Customers are already beginning
to realize significant return on investment with Fresco
and Java technology.
Infoscape nor our customers could have done this with any other language
except for Java technology. Thanks to Sun creating yet another revolution in
network computing."
|
| Stan
Wang, Infospace, Inc. |
"While companies
are constructing data marts and data warehouses to gain insight into
their business, they are also looking for a way to distribute that
information to an expanding community of end users. Increasingly,
these companies are finding that the Web and corporate intranet provide
the perfect medium for delivery and Java platform the perfect mechanism. Infospace's
100% Pure Java-certified solutions, SpaceSQL and SpaceOLAP, provide these companies
with a full-featured, platform independent solution for tapping virtually
any database and analyzing and publishing their data, all within a
web browser."
|
| Simon
Arnison, Innotech Multimedia Corporation |
"Developing
NetResults to the 100% Pure Java certification requirements provided Innotech with several advantages
over using another language. The ability to focus Innotech's development
resources on advancing the product for just one platform provides
us with a faster time to market for new features and versions. In
terms of the functionality of the language, Innotech's development
team took advantage of the efficiencies Java technology provides developers with
its high level access to threads and network services. This allowed
us to build an advanced feature set into NetResults such as cascading
searches and load balancing," said Simon Arnison, chief technology
officer of Innotech."

| Erno
Hempel, intraWeb Information Technologies GmbH |
"The existence
of Java technology has been crucial to the development of our WebKiosk-1 systems;
in fact it is the very reason our kiosk system is innovative and is
such an improvement on traditional kiosk systems. We have
used Java technology
to replace the costly and maintenance-intensive PC-based
kiosks. Java technology
allows us to offer our customers groundbreaking technology, to improve
their businesses, while ensuring that they are being offered the most
cost effective solution possible. For us, this is unique selling point
when talking to our customers, and has proved to be a highly successful
and useful one."
|
| Albert
Lu, IQ Net |
"Our customers
in the brokage firms have a combination of UNIX and Windows computers.
With Java technology, we can provide a product that can run on both systems with
the same look and functionalities. It greatly reduce our development
time and our customers are very happy."
|
| Michael
Gaiss, IQ Software Corporation. |
"We are strategically
aligning our future Internet development activities around
the Java platform because
it enables us to deliver what our customers are demanding: a platform
independent Web reporting solution that is scalable across the enterprise."
|
| Sharon
Kroo, MerzCom |
"MerzCom is
using Java technology to deliver leading edge information visualization and personalization
solutions to a variety of applications. Our first product, MerzScope,
visually maps web content to enable more effective web navigation
by the surfer. MerzScope could not have been developed
without Java technology,
whose rich APIs, and platform independence allowed us to quickly bring
to market a highly innovative award winning product."
|
| Ketan
Kotak, NetAccent |
"The ubiquity
of the Internet is virtually wasted without a platform which allows
applications to utilize the reach of Internet to write ubiquitous
applications! That's where Java technology comes into the picture for us. We
set out harness to power of Java platform (not just the language)
to make probably the most commonly used tool by home and business
users, the E-Mail or as Sun puts it "The Next Killer Application!"
Our customers realize the benefits of a platform independent, standards
based, light weight and universally accessible messaging solution
for them and their clients. Finally the world of computing is moving
in the right direction -- to the Networks and Java
technology is an indispensible
enabler in that process."
|
| Heather
Rose, Netmosphere |
"Netmosphere
provides coordination software to manage complex and dynamic projects
effectively, to either reduce costs or to deliver results early. For
users, our applications are as simple to install as browsing a web
page. We use 100% Pure Java certification to give our customers the best of secure
data management, convenient network access, and interative desktop
applications."
|
| Bruce
Coleman, Open Horizon, Inc. |
"Java platform ideally
supports applications that leverage the Internet. Open Horizon selected
Java technology to build our next generation product -- Ambrosia, a middleware
solution that brings mission-critical services to the Java
platform. Ambrosia provides
a complete platform for building applications that must communicate
business event information over the Internet or intranets. Ambrosia
delivers real-time event notification via a secure, reliable infrastructure
based on a publish/subscribe messaging engine. The product provides
application and legacy interoperability through interfaces for 100%
Pure Java-certified Java code, C/C++, and CORBA, and delivers mission-critical services
including comprehensive security, guaranteed delivery, transaction
support, and centralized administration. Open Horizon has found Java
the most productive language for complex
applications. Java technology is ideally
suited for building object-based business applications running on
the Internet and intranets. Java hides many of the arduous tasks (pointers,
garbage collection, etc.) exposed in other languages. This substantially
reduces our time to market, improves the quality of our code and permits
flexibility in adding new features. Our customers have
used the Java platform and
Ambrosia to accelerate development. For example, a billion-dollar
healthcare vendor finished an application interoperability framework
in ten days with two people after a team of five spent a year trying
to build their own solution. Open Horizon customers like the ability
to write a single application that will run anywhere. An international
financial organization's derivative trading application uses Ambrosia
to provide real-time, secure information between processes running
on a variety of platforms, from Sun enterprise servers to PCs and
Macs. Customers also benefit from the ability to instantly build Internet
front ends to legacy databases. A system integrator built an application
that permits businesses to access parts retailers, creating new business
opportunities for the retailers. The system allows hundreds of retailers
to swap inventory over the Internet, multiplying their ability to
offer solutions and turn inventory faster."
|
| Mike
Stevens, Persoft, Inc. |
"Java technology
is key in our new Persona, web-to-host product line. The
use of the Java platform
has enabled Persoft to deliver advanced capabilities to the desktop
without the typical overhead of administration. In addition, the use
of Java technology has eliminated risk for our customers who are looking for
a solution that supports their current environment as well as the
new technologies they are evaluating, such as, Network Computers and
Network PCs."

| Shane Maine, Sanga International Inc. |
"Sanga International
is a world leading provider of "packaged enterprise software solutions"
that enable Fortune 500 companies and large governmental organizations
to rapidly deploy new Intranet and Extranet applications. These applications
integrate disparate information technology systems and extend these
systems throughout and beyond the enterprise. Sanga provides its 100%
Pure Java-certified Sanga Enterprise Solutions in four areas: 1. Finance 2. Telecommunications
3. Government 4. Integrated Supply Chain Management (ISCM) "Sanga's
100% Pure Java-certified applications enable large organizations to dramatically
reduce the cost of deploying and maintaining enterprise applications"
said Shane Maine, Chairman and CEO, Sanga International Inc. "Fortune
500 companies can drastically reduce the cost of client administration
and cost of deployment with enterprise Java technology-based applications because there
is no client software." According to its 1996 study, Gartner Group
estimated that client administration can exceed 50 percent of IT spending.
For Fortune 500 companies which often have annual IT budgets in excess
of $1 billion, that translates into reduced costs of hundreds of millions
of dollars. Sanga Enterprise Solutions in Action Organizations today
are committed to and deploying Java technology-based applications. For example, Guy
Morizan of OCAS (Ontario Colleges Application Service) is deploying
a Sanga Enterprise Solution in the Governmental Sector, named the
Education Client Information System. This application will service
25 colleges across Ontario that will allow its students online access
to application services. The Sanga CIS will service approximately
17,000 staff and 250,00 full-time students at the 25 colleges; as
well as businesses who may want to buy courses from the colleges and
organizations that are sponsoring students. OCAS had hoped to buy
Java platform tools and build the application in-house, but a lack of available
tools and in-house resources led them to Sanga. "We spent six
months reviewing 26 vendors, starting with companies selling Java platform
tools to even looking at custom integration shops. The tools
wouldn't scale to our needs, or weren't 100% Pure Java certified," recalled Morazain.
"Even if the right tools were available, we soon realized we didn't
have the technical resources necessary to build such a large application.
So we looked at application and database vendors. Again, nobody was
building enterprise solutions, in the Java language...until we found Sanga International."
There are 25 colleges in the province of Ontario, Canada, each with
its own independent and disparate system for managing critical administrative
information that includes curriculum, admissions, registration, scheduling
and records. The Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) was established
to provide a single, common system for processing student applications
and confirmations of acceptance. With as many as 250,000 full-time
students in the system at any one time, OCAS processes about 150,000
new applications each year."

| Barry Parshall, Seagate Software |
"Java technology has a
lot of momentum in the marketplace and is delivering on the promise
of providing a build-it-once, write-it-everywhere
story. We see Java technology
as one of the important development languages for the Web and have
delivered a 100% Pure Java-certified Smart Viewer for Seagate Crystal
Reports 6.0, the upcoming version of our market leading query and
reporting tool. We intend to continue developing beans and Java
technology for application development and report creation purposes."
|
| Robert Tufty, SensiView Corporation |
"The Java Virtual
Machine and the 100% Pure Java program provides all sensor users with
an operating platform to move forward beyond the limitations of conventional,
proprietary sensor monitoring systems and hardware. Over the past
30 years, the instrument industry has evolved in parallel with, but
separate from, the computer industry, and can finally begin to leverage
their requirements directly from world wide network computing. As
the nexus of modern Internet technology, significant processing power,
and conformal object programming, Java technology advances calculation beyond
computation as much as Arabic digits advanced computation beyond the
limitations of Roman Numerals. This formalism enables the SensiView
Virtual Sensors to extend the promise of 'Write Once, Run Anywhere'
to all sensor users so they may 'Sense once, View anywhere' at any
time."
|
| John Schroeder, SQRIBE Technologies |
"SQRIBE's enterprise
customer base, exceeding 7500 sites worldwide, demands information

We've successfully delivered solutions, based on a multi-tier architecture,
in the Java language. " said John Schroeder, VP of Engineering at SQRIBE Technologies.
"Java technology, while relatively new, has quickly matured, allowing
SQRIBE to deliver on its strategy more rapidly than with traditional
tools."
|
| Joe Keller, Sun Microsystems, Inc. (software business units) |
"Leading-edge
development tools are necessary for advancing Java technology's power and flexibility,"
said Joe Keller, Director/Marketing, Authoring & Development Tools,
Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Leading ahead of its competitors
in Java platform compliancy
and implementation, such as 100% Pure Java program and
support of the latest JDKTM
standards, are Sun's tools, including Java
WorkShopTM development environment
and Java StudioTM authoring package."
|
| David Knight, Sybase |
"Sybase is
convinced that Java technology is evolving from a programming language to an
Enterprise computing platform," said David Knight, Director of Internet
Transaction Products at Sybase. "What is making this transition possible
is the evolution of a common multi-tier architecture, the definition
of standard API's, and the delivery of products based on these API's.
Sybase with its PowerJ -- second generation Enterprise
Java platform tool, Jaguar
CTS -- the first Transaction Server with Enterprise
JavaBeansTM technology support, and jCONNECT
-- 100% Pure Java-certified DBMS driver has the industry's most comprehensive
set of products to bring Java technology into the Enterprise mainstream. What
these products enable our customers to do is develop and deploy a
new breed of customer centric Enterprise Java technology-based applications such as
help desk, sales force automation, asset management, and customer
self-service."
|
| Sarah Giles, TRADE'ex Electronic Commerce Systems, Inc. |
"TRADE'ex develops
and licenses Java technology-based enterprise electronic commerce software solutions
that facilitate on-line, business-to-business product sales and purchases
over networks for our clients. Organizations like British Telecom,
are using TRADE'ex Market Maker and TRADE'ex Distributor to facilitate
efficient buying and selling with trading partners over the Internet,
corporate Intranet or Extranet. In May of 1997, BT Launched the first
live working marketplace on the Internet specifically designed to
benefit the small-to-medium-sized enterprise with TRADE'ex Market
Maker. The telecommunications leader is developing this
Java technology-based
service to help companies reach a global marketplace while considerably
reducing the cost of products, as well as purchasing administration
and management in the IT and Office Supply industries. BT's alluring
argument for the service is that "the approach will save cash-conscious
companies considerable money, time and effort purchasing products
while reducing administrative overhead," said Sarah Giles, BT Solutions
Marketing Manager. " With our products written in the Java
language, and certified
as meeting the 100% Pure Java requirements by Sun, we supply the most powerful and portable
e-commerce applications for even the most demanding EC initiatives,"
states Daniel Aegerter, TRADE'ex CEO."
|
| James K. Phillips, Visual Numerics, Inc. |
"Developing
Java technology-based solutions enables our customers and partners to benefit
from our computational and visualization expertise on virtually any
platform. The platform independence, object oriented design and connectivity
of the Java platform is key to our strategy for building our next
generation component-based Visual Data Analysis (VDA) tools."
|
| Neal Bangerter, Visualize, Inc. |
"From the perspective
of Visualize, Inc., Java technology creates enormous new opportunities for business
users and developers. We have developed the DataVist data visualization
and analysis tools to take full advantage of the robustness and platform
independence of Java technology, enabling us to give users highly interactive,
professional charts and graphs of their data in real-time."
|
| John Neffenger, Volano LLC |
"When I started
my Java platform-based software business, my friends would call to tease me for playing
with a toy programming language. Now they're faced with having to
port their C and C++ code to a dozen different operating systems.
Needless to say, they're all desperately scrambling to port their
code to the Java language -- an effort I avoided by
starting with Java technology in the first
place. These days my friends call for advice."
"Because our VolanoChat
Client is 100% Pure Java certified, it runs on 22 operating systems and
14 hardware platforms without a single line of platform specific
code -- a total of 478 different Java platform-enabled environments in all. That
kind of portability was hardly imaginable just two years ago!"
|
| Dr. Wenwey Hseush, WebMan Technologies, Inc. |
"WebMan makes
sure that Timecruiser is truly cross-platform, meaning the same software
program will run on every Java Virtual Machine enabled operating system
and derive the same result. Because without such virtue, no software
system can really improve the entire enterprise's collaboration, productivity
and cost efficiency, due to the heterogeneity of departmental computing
environment! As commented by U.S. Navy, at Port Hueneme, CA, "Timecruiser
offers the most sensible Web-based solution and great flexibility
for enterprise scheduling and calendaring needs over a wide span of
geographical regions."
*As used on this web site, the terms "Java virtual machine" or
"JVM" mean a virtual machine for the Java platform.
