DOWNLOADING the BDK 1.1 What's new? | What's in the BDK? | Licensing | BDK Download | Bug Reporting April '99 The JavaBeansTM Development Kit (BDK) is intended to support the development of JavaBeans components and to act as a standard reference base for both component developers and tool vendors. The BDK provides a reference Bean container, the "BeanBox" and a variety of reusable example source code (in the demo and beanbox subdirectories) for use by both tool and beans developers. The BDK software is not intended for use by application developers, nor is it intended to be a full-fledged application development environment. Instead, application developers should consider the various JavaTM application development environments supporting the JavaBeans architecture. This BDK 1.1 release requires you to have installed the Java 2 Standard Edition SDK 1.2 or later. The BDK software is qualified for the SolarisTM 2.6, Windows 95, and Windows NT 4.0 operating environments. However, the BDK software is written entirely in the Java programming language and should run on any Java 2 Standard Edition enabled system. WHAT IS NEW? BDK 1.1 demonstrates the BeanContext API. The BeanBox is a BeanContext container and provides a method tracing service. The Juggler Bean makes use of that service. See the BeanContext API article on the details of how the API is implemented in the BeanBox. The Runtime Containment and Services Protocol is a core API in Java 2 Standard Edition. Therefor BDK 1.1 requires this release. See the CHANGES.txt document for a full overview of all changes. WHAT'S IN THE BDK? The BeanBox test container. This allows you to test out your new Beans against a reference container, and also acts an example of how to build a Bean container. Running the BeanBox Adding new Beans to the BeanBox We provide fifteen example Beans which can run in the BeanBox and demonstrate various Bean behaviour.
