| It is unlikely that Linux will be around in 5 years time. There are a number of reasons why Linux can never have the ability to dominate in the market.
Essentially Linux is in the hands of a few individuals, such as Linus and Alan Cox. The people that control the kernel control Linux. Not enough companies are going to invest the bucks to Linux development when this small circle of Linux hackers ultimately control their destiny!
Linux is currently enjoying a honeymoon period (a bit like Java experienced recently). However its fashionable status is unlikely to see it penetrate into the market. At the very best Linux will remain a fringe operating system and can surely only go the way of OS/2
