The ISC has recommended that everyone using BIND upgrade to this latest version (BIND v8.2.2 patchlevel 3) due to security holes existing in previous versions. If you are using a version previous to BIND 8.2.1 then pay special attention to the ISC configuration hints on a new required TTL setting which should be added to every zone file. More information on the TTL setting is also available in RFC 2038. On a side note, those who enjoy the bleeding edge should read the ISC future plans page which now has information on the thread-safe/multi-processor ready BIND version 9 (major rewrite) going beta in January. Now personally I'm pretty sick of reading about it, so I've decided to combine a bunch of relevant stories and post 'em quickie style now: Yahoo is running a story about the Wave of Lawsuits following Jacksons ruling. The Drudge Report is saying the prosecution won't settle unless Microsoft is broken up. Byte has Jerry Pournelle's take (he's against it). In related news- we also understand that some people at Red Hat were so upset with the acquisition and it's corporate implications that they have decided to resign from their Sr. management (founding) positions. After the failed acquisition attempts with both Linuxcare and TurboLinux- this should prove to be a very interesting deal. I'm personally looking forward to the annual report! " Again, none of this is any more than rumor, but I've caught wind of it from several spots so I figure its worth sharing. The article notes that they have seen a marked decrease in spam in just a short time. Read the whole article." More and more ISPs seem to be jumping on the MAPS RBL bandwagon. Quote from the story: "The virus can only run if Internet Explorer 5.0 with Windows Scripting Host is installed (standard in Windows 98 and Windows 2000 installations). If security settings for Internet Zone in IE5 are set to High, the worm will not be executed. It does not run on Windows NT." ZDNet also has a story about this "Bubbleboy" virus.
