  · Tatics not in the UK? ·

Input

Having read your review of this game [Final Fantasy Tatics]. I am very interested to know whether it will get (or already has) a UK release.I played FF VII and Vandal Hearts and am playing FF VIII at the moment but i do prefer having a bit more input in the game than you get with the FF (VII and VIII) games. Thanks and Merry Christmas

Response

No, Square Europe didn't release FFT in the United Kingdom, which is shame, since it's one of the best games Square has produced (personally, I didn't like it, but it's my preference in CRPGs rather than SRPGs). If I remember correctly, Square also didn't release Xenogears to Europe either. Sooner or later game companies have to realize that they're sitting on a potential goldmine in Europe and start releasing some AAA titles over there.

  · SF3, Praise and Bahn, oh my! ·

Input

I recently imported SF3 World Impact and i just can't wait to play the game. More importantly I can't wait to see your reviews on it. I must be honest that i never wrote a letter to a site before and all i have to say is that you guys have taste in gaming and keep up the good work. Thanks.

Response

Thanks for the kind words, we always appreciate a little praise here and there from the bitching we sometimes get, and you can be sure that good ol Bahn will be writing up his review of SF3, as soon as he can. Don't be surprised if it shows up in a week or two.

  · Retro Recall Nah. ·

Do you all remeber those old Konami arcade games. X-men was one of them where you could play up to 6 players with characters like Dazzler, Storm and Wolverine. Then there was that simpsons game which was also extremely fun and you could play as Lisa,Bart etc. My question is why these games never made it home? Turtles in Time did. With the Dreamcast out now, these games can be ported perfectly. Any chance Konami will release a classic CD compilation of these games? Is there a way I can fight for these games releases? I know a lot of people who feel the same way as me.

Response

The answer to your question is simple. X-Men and The Simpsons were never ports to home consoles because the consoles were vastly underpowered compared to their arcade brethren. A port of X-men would've been unfeasible with the technology they had back then to do a 6 player game. It would've caused massive slowdown, and if they limited it to 2 players (like TMNT 4), how fun would the game have been then? As for The Simpsons game, Konami probably didn't port it because they saw how horrible the NES Simpsons games were selling (mainly because of quality), and didn't think it would've been wise to make an SNES version. Chances of Konami releasing a compilation pack of these games is unlikely, but the possibility is there. The best way to petition for these games is to actually write a letter (NOT an e-mail, most people in the company would delete it without giving it a second chance) with a number of signatures to Konami expressing your concern for these games. Due to my fear of being attacked by some men in black, I'm not obligated to giving out Konami's phone number or address... so, you're on your own.

  · DC Mods? Nah. ·

Input

Hi, I was wondering if you guys knew of a way for me to play a Japanese import game on my US Dreamcast. Preferably without modification.

Thanks in advance, Digi

Response

Right now there's absolutely no way you can play import games on an American Dreamcast without modding it. You can play import games on the US Dreamcast, but that requires methods such as swapping, or something called a battery swap trick. Since I don't know the details to this method, I don't think I'll attempt to explain how to do it. ^^;;

I've been hitting yoursite for a while and I must say you guys are doing a good job. I thought I would submit a newsbit that you guys might find interesting. It seems to have been getting a lot of publicity as of late.

Basically it seems as if these developers have made the first ever music album on the Game Boy and they're giving it away for free. Well anyways if you want to see/download it, its at

Whoa, thanks for the link. I visited the site a few minutes ago and it seems quite impressive as to what they're doing. Now, if they can only try to make a music album for the N64, hah! let's see them try that! ^_^

I wanted to commend you on your review of Counter-Strike MOD for Half-Life. You said a mouth full, there is no other game like Counter-Strike I have been addicted for months now from the first beta release. I am in awe at the player models, weapon models, maps, and overall strategy of a fast paced FPS like Counter-Strike. There is nothing bad I can say about the game. I hope that others take heed and create games, or MODs of this nature for up and coming Game engines like Q3 Arena or Unreal Tournament. I hope the CS team continues with their hard work and wonderful MOD. This is a game / Mod I would easily pay for........

  · Football? Soccer? Eh? ·

Input

I own a Playstation and a Dreamcast. Even though I am not a big fan of football games do you still think I should buy UEFA Striker? Is it better than FIFA 2000? Dou you think I should buy FIFA 2000 anyway since I have my Playstation chipped and I can get it for £5?

Response

Since I'm not a huge fan of soccer, I can't really tell you the quality of the games you've listed. More importantly, I think that UEFA Striker is a Europe only game, since I've never seen the game in stores around my area. From what I've seen of FIFA 2000, it looks to be a good game, but I would suggest renting UEFA first and then look for some info on FIFA 2K.

  · VOOT, DoA2 and more ·

Input

I would like to thank you for reading another letter and keeping your so appreciated attention. I want to ask you if I can plug a japanese standard Dreamcast controller to my american dreamcast? And I want to know if Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram will come to the US? I want to know everything you know about the console version of Dead or Alive 2 for the Dreamcast and the PS2? And one last question, Is Namco developing the next part of Soul Calibur for Dreamcast?

Thank you very much, HTCP

Response

*cracks knuckles* alright, here we go..
  1. Yes, you can use Japanese DC controllers on your US Dreamcast. They have the same controller port design, so I don't see why anything would bar it from working
  2. VOOT is hopefully a lock for a US release. The game just saw a release over in Japan a few days ago, so expect the future of VOOT in the US to be determined by it's Japanese sales, or perhaps how fast Sega can get their online network up and running. VOOT might see a delayed release because of the latter.
  3. Dead or Alive 2 is currently still in testing at various locations around the world. I know that it's in parts of the US ( I believe an arcade in North Carolina has it, according to someone I know in #soulcalibur). As for it coming out on console, since it's on the Naomi board, a port to the Dreamcast is a no-brainer. I don't know if DoA2 will be coming out on the PS2, and quite frankly it's too early at this stage of the game to tell if DoA2 will be ported to Sony's new console.
  4. From what everyone says.. yes. But if I were you, I'd suggest waiting till Namco says something about it, since they haven't officially stated they are making the third game in the Soul series. It's funny how everyone is saying Namco is developing a "Soul Calibur 2" ... these are the people who obviously don't know that SC is the descendent of the game Soul Edge from a while back.

  · Upcoming Titles? ·

Input

Do you have any recent news on Unreal,Take the bullet or something like that for the DC. And also do you think THQ will bring WWF Smackdown to the dreamcast, If so that would be a awsome game.

Response

From what I remember, Unreal was actually ported onto the Dreamcast development kits, or the equivalent of a Dreamcast, by the Unreal creators. They said it took them a few weeks to do a straight port of the single player portion of the game. That being said, I'd expect an Unreal port sooner or later, but most likely later, as no news has come out from Epic concerning a solid Dreamcast confirmation. As for Take the Bullet, I don't have any information on the game, but I do know that THQ most likely won't be bringing WWF Smackdown! to the DC, as they'll probably use a new engine for any wrestling games for the Dreamcast. Smackdown!'s game engine is PSX based, so a conversion might get a little bit sloppy and might not do the game justice.
